Ruth Bader Ginsberg passes on at 87

I think it’s pretty naive to think the Democrats wouldn’t force a nomination in this situation.
You may or may not be right, but I find it funny that everyone keeps defending (or at least rationalizing) what the Republicans are actually doing by claiming the Democrats would do it, if they could.

No matter how many times you or anyone else claims that the Dems would happily jump all over the norms of American democracy if they only had the chance, in real life, it's the Republican party that is doing the jumping. Wacky idea: let's hold politicians accountable for what they actually do, instead of what we imagine they might do.

The Dems won’t make a relief package deal cuz it will help Trump.

So here is the stuffshot rule: Every election year we just shut the whole son of a bitch down and there will be no governing at all. Any government will help somebody so let’s don’t have any.

Does that about cover it for you?
No, that's not my position at all, but refusing to govern IS the position of the Republicans:

The Alt-Right Senate didn't even wait until an election year but began refusing to even consider bills passed by the House in 2019 (including several infrastructure bills).

Knowing it was a nonstarter.

The pubs didn't even attempt one until the last week of the session, then they presented a complete Turd and went on vacation.

GTFOH with that stupid shit.

Why can't the Republicans read a calendar? Because you are transparent, machavellian f#$ks.

No one believes a word the pubs say.

In this case you did it because 1 the pubs are such clown morons that calendars give them trouble or 2. You don't give a f about anyone and we're hoping that millions of people would be evicted before an election or 3. You wanted Trump to put out executive orders in the attempt that he looks like the hero before an election.

Again GTFO with that nonsense.

Republicans who might have voted against Trump, now have the Supreme Court importance to vote Trump. Think ending abortion as one example.

Great to see posters before me whose ideology might not agree with RBG have kind words for her.
She was very accomplished. RBG also fought like a lioness in her battle against cancer. She never gave up and was a good example for any of us who get the disease in the future. When it comes to abortion of course I want to end it legally. For it is a grievous evil. But when you think about it if people stopped having relations outside of marriage it would cut down on abortions. People who rape and commit incest are guilty too because every abortion advocate brings them up as a reason why we need the practice. If people cared more about the lives of their children and viewed them as children from conception to birth and when they wreck the car at 16 we would have no need for abortion because people would see them as precious. RBG is not the reason why abortion is legal or kept legal. Evil hearts with evil actions and intentions are. May she rest in peace. I don't know if she knew Christ as Savior or not. My highest hope is she knew Him as Savior.

YeahVan, She is the reason abortion is legal!

Uh they did try to force Garland through. They just didn't have the Senate. We're not guessing here Goat. We know exactly what they would do in the same position.

It's the multitude of sanctimonious lies about not pushing it through that's going to stink this up for the GOP.

After what they did to Kavanaugh, the Dems have no room to complain about stinking things up.

And what they did to Robert Bork. They Dems started this entire sh!tshow. We owe them nothing. Remember that nearly every Republican in the Senate voted to confirm RBG who was one of the most far left and activist judges to sit on the court.

Would Democrats really be that resistant to a Coney Barrett nomination? Every woman nominated to the supreme court turns into a liberal moonbat anyway. Kagan and Sotomayor were batsh*t at the outset. But even once reasonable justices like O'Connor and RBG end up going completely off the reservation.
Sotomayor has so far been a good justice

Which “norm” of American democracy does the GOP jump all over by promptly filling a SCOTUS vacancy?

So it’s not so much the unborn fetus as it is controlling women’s sex lives? I’ve always suspected this was the reason most right wingers were anti choice. Thanks for saying it out loud.

The norm set in 2016. Are you are now suggesting that Democrats should be happy Mitch F##@ed them over on Garland.

That is not a norm , marv.

I agree with RBG

It was not the norm, but the President of the Senate sold it as such. Again, Democrats should be happy McConnell screwed the norm?

Look at it this way, we used to filibuster justices. The Democrats changed it for a handful, Mitch jammed anyone who can spell federalist society through. You haven't actively opposed Mitch on that norm change. Why is thay? Mitch could have returned us to "the norm".

Shoot us straight. You didn’t actually go to law school did you?

Yes. On a full academic scholarship. The only one in my class to have a full academic scholarship. I graduated with 3 degrees from undergrad. I was the outstanding student in the political science department in my undergrad. And I graduated in the top half of my law school class.

So what happened? I’m asking this honestly. You are fully immersed in a right wing news bubble and deny objective facts because Fox News tells you you cannot trust anyone but it. I don’t understand how intelligent people can be so duped. Plus, your phone has a news feed built in that provides innumerable sources for information. Do you just never look? I have no idea how this works.

My FIL is the same way. Smart, educated guy who stills think China cooked up Covid in a lab and intentionally set it free in the US. I’ve sent him several scientific articles explaining why that is false and he simply disregards. I skim Fox News every morning to tell my wife the disinformation her dad will share with her that day. It’s actually been successful in reaching her.

IIRC correctly the Dems changed the filibuster rule for all except SCOTUS. I don’t think that was a “handful”. McConnell changed it for Gorsuch, wise move.

On another point. It has become quite fashionable for the Democrats to ridicule the Federalist Society. A lot of great thinkers and interesting people are members. Does that ridicule come from the general tendency of the Dems to now only debate issues by ridiculing people instead of discussing ideas? It seems like the national Dems take their methods from the Dems on the Cooler.

Has the Federalist Society endorsed the nominees that the ABA has deemed not qualified?

Look at originality intent, find me a quote that shows any original writer wanted women on the Supreme Court? We know you will not look because no such quote exists. So how can an originality woman accept the position?

The federalist society are a bunch of people who think they are smarter than they are.

You are kidding; right? Is this your argument about original intent, really?

Well they are smarter than Democrats. Admittedly that’s not saying a lot.

What did they do to Kavanaugh? Dare to bring up his past? I guess , considering Trump, they should have known Republicans don’t really care about sexual assault. Unless a Dem is involved.

You're a freaking riot. No matter that it was wrong, McConnell's extra-constitutional gambit proved profitable for the Republicans, but now they should do the right thing... and profit again?

People wondering what CO’s rationalization was going to be on this situation are the same people who watch a porn wondering if there’s gonna be people f*****g. Everyone else knew what was going to happen.

They’d have more of a leg to stand on if Mitch had done his job and out Garland up for a vote. He would have been voted down and that’s that. But not even holding a vote? Anyone not incredibly biased is going to see this for the play it is. Gloves are off. Wait until January.

Oh, and I do think CO legitimately did not like McConnell's action.
I know I didn’t. He should have cleared the way for a vote on Garland. Republicans could have voted him down for the same reason that McConnell gave for not allowing a vote or they could have confirmed him. I’d respect either of those outcomes.

C’mon man! Feinstein knew about the alleged assault and sprung it on the nominee in public at the most conspicuous time to attack him. Attacking people is standard stuff for the “compassionate”. Dems. This should have been raised at the preliminary non-public part of the process. But noooooo. . . .

Never mind the fact the only corroborating evidence did not support her story.
