I’ll go out on a limb here and say we beat Rutgers this week . If you look at the teams we lost to , and their combined records , they are all very good teams . To do so we must 1st decide on a QB and not do the musical chairs thing . 2nd and this goes with the QB , we need some time consuming drives so the D isn’t on the field all the time , and with that we need to a have ground game that helps keep the clock moving . With the ground game that does not mean Lucas up the middle . 3rd the short passing game over the middle can be an extension of the running game , and the passes to the flats are so slow in developing that our receivers don’t have time to make a move . 4th we are home , and hopefully the crowd gives us a boost , and they don’t all leave at half time .

Agree with your strategy but we haven’t been able to do any of those things so far this year. The only thing that is guaranteed is that half the crowd will leave at halftime.

I remember sitting at that Rutgers game two years ago, watching IU get their brains beat in against a really poor Rutgers team. I remember feeling at that moment that whatever gains were made in 2019 and 2020 were history. There's been plenty of disappointing moments for us at Memorial Stadium over the years but that one pretty much tops the list for us. This was the moment IU returned to the Dinardo era.

News & Notes
• Per Pro Football Focus, redshirt senior Andre Carter ranks No. 5 in the Big Ten with 22 total pressures (sacks, QB hits or hurries), a total that sits tied for No. 29 in the Power 5 and No. 45 in the FBS.
• With 2.0 tackles for loss in each of the first two games of the season, Carter's 4.0 TFLs were the most by a Hoosier in the first two games of a season since 2004 when Kyle Killion posted 5.5 tackles for loss.
• With 50 tackles, redshirt senior Aaron Casey ranks No. 6 in the Big Ten and his 8.3 tackles per game are No. 43 nationally entering Week 8. His 8.0 tackles for loss lead the conference and includes 3.0 sacks.

Some expected more from Carter … he may yet play his way onto all big 10.

Schiano’s transcript… praises D … Met Allen at USF … focused on not overlooking Indiana

They are a well-coached football team. Tom is so heavily involved in the defense, and you can see it. It's just they make you really check every box in your preparation because they bring pressure from everywhere. They bring line movements that are hard to block. They rush secondary guys. They have good players. Like their D-Line is unique, seven of the eight, two-deep, are transfer guys. … I read the write-up and expected to see a disjointed group that just came together. Far from it. They look like they have been coached by the same coach for a long time. They all played with pad level. They are stout. And then you know, Casey, 44, he's one of the top five linebackers in the league. ... He's strong; he's fast; he's tough, he's instinctual. The secondary has a bunch of first-year starters but they are playing well there. Whoever is coaching that group is doing great job. I'm not that familiar with exactly how their staff works, but I think it all comes back to Coach Allen. He runs that defense. I've seen him, when I was down in Tampa he was down in South Florida and I was doing TV at the time, and I went over to watch one of their practices and I didn't know Tom Allen from a hole in the wall. I just watched him coach. I said, that guy, he's really good. You could see it back then, and that would have been 2014 the first time I saw him.

(4 sacks in 6 TFLs at Ann Arbor influenced this, I’m sure.)

If I read that analysis without knowing anything else about IU's 2023 season, I'd think we have a winning record.

We are 2-4. If Akron's kicker hadn't missed a chip-shot FG at the end of regulation, we'd be 1-5 - - - with the lone win against an FCS school.

The reality is that coaches routinely heap praise on opponents and opposing coaches before they beat play them. And it's not surprising he didn't comment on the offense. Any praise there would have been clearly disingenuous.

I dread the thought of seeing Schiano's smirky, gap-toothed smile at the end of another RU/IU game, and hope we can somehow find a way to beat them.

I think they have a shot.

There's a lot of quit in this team. They're less likely to quit if we lead or stay very close, which may be possible against Rutgers at home. They're terrible, but we know they won't quit. They've shown against us and against MSU that they'll take the win if you want to give it to them.

If at any point we get behind 10 points, game over. We lack the desire required to overcome adversity.

This will be my first game at Indiana. I do think it’ll be a close game. We don’t exactly have a high powered offense.
You'll have a great time. Win or lose (and it's usually the latter), IU fans are friendly and laid-back. The IU campus is amazing and, no offense, but Bloomington is a lot nicer than New Brunswick.

And no hard feelings regarding the 2015 RU/IU game. For an IU fanbase that's accustomed to gut-wrenching losses, the 2015 game left some serious scars. We have lost games in every imaginable way, but blowing a late 25-point lead and losing to you guys that year was pretty special.

Now back to this year's game. You don't have a high powered offense? Not to worry. We're 111th nationally in red zone offense, 116th in rushing offense, 118th in total offense, and 123rd in scoring offense. We are, though, 91st in passing offense, so we've got you there!

Have fun.

well hopefully it’s a good time. The weather is looking good just hopefully not much rain on Friday. We got an air b and b somewhere close to campus.

good luck Saturday!

If you need something to do before the game check out the tailgating scene in the grass lots just south of the stadium. Bands, lots of student tents all kinds of food, etc. It is a good party. I will be in there somewhere.

cool thanks. We’re planning on taking an Uber from the air b and b to the Rutgers Foundation tailgate. I’m not sure exactly where it is, but last year it was right outside the stadium at Minnesota.

Visiting tailgates are often north of the stadium near Mellencamp

Our problem remains the OL. I do believe we have a legit OL coach. I don't believe we have players that want to compete. They are slow off the line, they almost never push the D back and I haven't seen a significant difference in the past 2 years.

We need to use the portal to completely replace our line with players that enjoy hitting people.and take winning individual battles and carrying out their assignments seriously. . We will lose the rest of our games because our OL won't win up front.

Can't you say that if we gained one yard on 4th and goal vs. Louisville we could be 3 and 3? The point is we did not get the yard and Akron's kicker missed the chip shot so we are 2-4.

So many posters want to think of the worse about IUFB instead of thinking what could have been.

I feel like this was how the game played out. Once wo got 10 points behind the game was over.

Their first drive of the game, all on the ground, was obviously a very bad omen. But I took some encouragement from the fact that they had no passing game whatsoever. We needed Rutgers to make some big mistakes to have a shot, and they made did not.

The dropped punt wasn't a big surprise. I was cursing CTA for calling a TO with 35 seconds to go in the half. I thought we'd come after the kicker and rough him. But we didn't even do that. So.....if you're not coming after the kicker why in the world would you let your PRer even try to catch the ball in those weather conditions, with less than 35 seconds left in the half? As stupid as anything CTA's ever done. But then the D bails him out and keeps the game close, only to give up another long drive out of the half.
