You know IU is running out of arms since they are running RHP John-Biagio Modugno out there to start the game, and he has really been struggling. He has an ERA of 10.53 in 33.1 IP with a WHIP of 2.19 and a big OBA of .362.
LHP Bryan Fitzpatrick is on the mound for Rutgers with an ERA of 4.74 in 19 IP and a WHIP of 1.32 with an OBA of ,239. This is his first start since March after suffering an injury.

I don't know what Jessee's injury problem is and he was replaced late by Murrison in the Terps game and Murrison is in the starting lineup against Rutgers. If my memory is correct, Jessee hurt his hand in an at-bat in the Terps game so that is probably it.

In the T1st, the leadoff hitter singles for Rutgers. Modugno then walks a batter to put two on with no outs and it looks like thing haven't changed much with Modugno. Another hit scores the run with runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs. Another single scores another run to make it 2-0 already with runners on the corners and still no outs. Another single scores another run to make it 3-0 and they are just now sending someone to the bullpen. Runners are on the corners and still no outs. A DP ball scores another run, but there are now two outs. Modugno walks another batter to put a runner on with two outs. A pop out ends RUs first inning but eight batters hit in the inning.

In IU 1st, IU is going to have their work cut out after Rutgers got as many runs in the 1st as MD got in 11 innings against us. Glasser grounds out to lead off. Whalen strikes out for the 2nd out. Mathison grounds out to end the inning.

This is suckish. Gonna retire and hope I wake up in a few hours and realize I missed a miracle.

In the T2nd, Modugno walks the leadoff man. A stolen base and then an error on the throw by Serrutto puts the runner on 3rd with no outs, and Modugno then gives up a double to score the runner at 3rd, and Mercer finally decides to go to the bullpen to bring in LHP Ryan Kraft with an ERA of 10.07 in 39.1 IP, and Kraft pitched in the Maryland game and didn't register an out while giving up an earned run. That was an awful start for Modugno as he gave up 5 hits, 3 BBs, and 5 ERs in 1.0 IP. A WP moves the runner to 3rd and a ground out scores the run to make it 6-0. Kraft gets a K for two outs. Kraft gets another K to end RU's 2nd.

In IU's 2nd, Pyne singles to lead off. Ellis strikes out for the first out. Pyne gets caught in a rundown but manages to get into 2nd as Rutgers botched it. Tibbets flies out for the 2nd out. Doanes strikes out to end the inning.

I don't blame you. When I saw that Modugno was starting the game I thought that Mercer was satisfied with the two wins in the tournament and was ready to go home. There didn't seem to be any urgency to pull Modugno when he was struggling against just about everyone he faced.

In the T3rd, the leadoff hitter reaches on a single. Another single puts two on and no outs. A SAC bunt moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out. A sharply hit ball to Doanes allows him to throw the runner out at the place for the 2nd out and runners on the corners. A triple scores two more runs with two outs. An error at 1st by Tibbetts scores the runner at 3rd and it's 9-0 and IU is well on their way to triggering the 7th inning mercy rule. Murrison throws out a runner at 3rd after another single to end the T3rd.

In IU's 3rd, Murrison and Serruto strike out and Glasser flies out to end the inning.

In the T4th, Kraft gets the leadoff hitter on a deep flyout. A ground out and a single puts a man on and two outs. A WP moves the runner to 2nd with two outs. A walk puts runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs. Kraft gets a K to hold Rutgers scoreless for the first time tonight.

In IU's 4th, a good catch in CF robbed Whalen of a leadoff hit. Mathison strikes out and Pyne walks to put a man on with two outs. Ellis lines out to 1st to end the inning.

The 46 combined runs scored in the Iowa/IU game this season is no longer the most in D-1 baseball this season. UCLA beat Oregon St, 25-22, tonight for a combined total of 47 runs which is the most combined runs scored in a game this season in over 8,000 D-1 games played.

In the T5th, RHP Luke Hayden comes in for Kraft with an ERA of 5.33 in 27 IP. Hayden gets the first two batters on flyouts and then walks a batter to put a man on. A K ends RU's 5th.

In the B5th, Rutgers goes to the bullpen and brings in RHP Sam Portnoy with an ERA of 3.04 in 23.2 IP. Tibbetts walks to lead off. Doanes is called safe on an infield hit in a very close play but a review by the umps reverses the call and he is out with Tibbetts moving to 2nd and one out. Another walk puts runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Serruto then strikes out against his former team for the 2nd out and two on with the top of the order up. Glasser struck out to end the inning.

In the T6h, Nathan Stahl replaced Hayden and gives up a single in the inning but leaves the runner on with a line out, a flyout, and a ground out.

In the B6th, Whalen walks and Mathison homers to LF, Pyne grounds out, Ellis strikes out, and Tibbetts grounds out to end the inning with the score 9-2.

In the T7th, the sequence was this for Stahl. A flyout, walk, single, WP, foul out, BB, single, double, hit batter, single and a K as Rutgers strikes for 5 more runs to make 14-2 and IU is about to be eliminated by the 10-run rule in the tournament.

In IU's 7th, Doanes walks, Murrison strikes out and Serruto grounds into a DP to end the game and IU's season on the 10-run rule in the 7th.

I heard Rutgers just scheduled Indiana for homecoming this season. This is depressing as we just can’t beat them in any sport?

When does swimming season start again?

IU was outhit, 15 to 2, and after Modugno gave up six runs in 1.0 IP and Kraft came in and gave up three runs in the 3rd to make it 9-0 through three innings, IU just seemed to be deflated. A fresh Rutgers team faced four IU pitchers that were struggling at the end of the season as IU ran out of pitchers that could have kept IU in the game, and the pitching totals showed that. Hayden pitched just one inning and gave up a BB and didn't give up a run in that inning, while Modugno, Kraft, and Stahl gave up the 14 runs of which 13 were earned. I'll let the box score do the talking on this one and I will post it later after getting some sleep.
