That must've just been a game against IU where Wisconsin played out of their minds in?

We let them play out of their minds. I watched a couple of halves of bucky ball leading up to that game. They're not very good. That flat loss still stings.

Rutgers isnt trash anymore. They are gonna make the tourney next year. Will get 7 + conference wins again

Remember when Juwan Howard was the biggest home run hire just weeks ago. How on earth could he possibly take his 5th ranked Wolverines on the road to Illinois and lose by 9?

Inexcusable!

Michigan is a spread offense, handle the various kinds of pick and roll and flair kind of stuff. If you can guard their 3s, they don't really have anything else but the drive (albeit with some talented guys). It will be interesting to see who matches up well against Michigan. I don't think IU does though. I hope I'm wrong.

Penn State is nails. The only flounders are NW and Nebraska, but IU better not take them lightly either, obviously.

I don’t see us taking either of those teams lightly. That Nebraska game at home last year was extremely disappointing. We should come out fired up for that one.

dude, your wife is gonna be pissed if she reads what you are calling her.
You need to stop with the banter, You are not clever, funny or quick witted. Please stop saying “female dog”. It makes you look like a Chucklehead in middle school getting bullied and trying to desperately have a comeback.
Pretty cringe worthy that you are afraid of using a “bad word” and too witless to come up with an alternative.

The “your Mom” “your Wife”, “that’s what she said” and “pictures of you” jokes take away from people respecting your bball knowledge, because they make you look like an immature twit.......well, so does your bball knowledge, never mind.

thanks for reading.

Soooo, Wisconsin and Rutgers... any additional thoughts?

We had horrible effort on defense........most teams are going to hit a high % of wide-open jump shots....once they hit a few they had tons of confidence. It happens all the time.....

I'm not sure why Archie thinks this should be such a good defensive team. Brunk & DD are slow-on-slow, Damezi is a space cadet, Green routinely tries to showboat by guarding guys 35 feet from the basket and has quick PGs blow by him. He can be a good defender when he wants to be.....frequently he doesn't care. Race is very good against stationary guys he can body up, but lacks the mobility to hang with quick guys. Our team as a whole has to give good effort to be an above average defensive team. RP, TJD, and Smith are 3 good defenders.......that's it.

Our defensive efficiency is presently ranked 85/353......offensively, we're 18/353....SOS right now is 163/353.

As to the RU game, Rutgers apparently just got after it.......they do have a lot of size....They out-rebounded Wisky 40-26, including 14 offensive rebounds. They held Reuvers to 2/8 from the field, 1/4 from 3s, 6 points, 5 rebounds. King, who I think is legitimate, has 18 points on 7/12 from the field.

Letting Reuvers have a career day was our undoing. I don't know why Archie didn't immediately start rotating defenders on him when it became clear that Brunk was such a bad match-up. Just poor coaching on Archie's part.

Not one person in my area has mentioned Penn State beating Maryland yet.

where did we end up last year as far as defensive efficiency, if you know?

By adding a shot blocker we should be less vulnerable to the drive this year. At least in theory. With Phin and Green we should have two excellent defensive guards. For this team to shine defensively we need huge minutes out of that tandem, and that hasn’t been possible yet. That has forced Durham into extended minutes. Miller’s been placed into a bit of a pickle, IMHO. We don’t have tremendous depth at guard. Franklin is a freshman. We need veteran leadership to calm things down, and we need a ball handler to replace Phin (and Green). But, Durham is clearly a defensive liability.

we have played extended minutes without either of our 2 best defensive guards.

the ceiling is there for this D. But we need those 2 guys. We also need for Brunk to play to his strengths and hide his liability (movement).

Per the SR CBB stat site, which is a nice site, we were 177 on O, 68 on D at the end of last year, when our SOS was 24th......The same #s this year so far are 18 on O, 85 on D, 163rd on SOS. So that present D # is concerning.

We went from #1 in the country on O after our first 7 games this year, to #18 after 10.............I can't remember exactly, but I think we were in the mid-60s in D efficiency after our first 7 games. So dropping down to #85 after playing 3 legit teams probably means we are actually getting better on D.

But overall, the biggest take-away is that statistically we're much better on O than on D.

Big Ten teams are 10-0 at home so far this year. The takeaway from Wisconsin is that we had effort lapses, and it is concerning since you can’t predict if/when it will happen again. Other than that, move on.
