Are superior to traffic lights. In nearly all instances. I do live in Carmel though. The unofficial roundabout capital of the world.

Something like a 90% reduction in injury causing accidents. Always work when the powers out. Sure, old people don’t know how to use them and you learn to get ready to avoid out of towners. But, on the whole, better.

However, I would feel guilty without mentioning the sole reason for this post. It’s our love affair with silver Dodge Chargers (or silver Altimas). Objectively the worst drivers, and probably people, in America. I’m picking up dinner because I’m lazy and the wife’s working late. Approach two lane roundabout.

A pause for the uneducated here. By two lanes I mean this

90

The blue outside (bottom to top) is straight or right turn ONLY. Inside lane is left or straight. Got it? Good.

Continuing - see commotion to my right as I’m looking left to enter (I’d be entering from stage right in the diagram). Wouldn’t you know it, a silver Dodge Charger is trying to make a left from the outside lane and smacks a Hyundai in inside lane which was trying to proceed straight. Around here, a tale as old as time.

But, our silver Dodge Charger driver? Out the car arms waving, screaming, cussing. I’ve never seen anyone so confidently incorrect since my daughter tried to explain tariffs to me.

TLDR; Roundabouts rule and could be used as an IQ test for most hiring decisions.

Several friends and I have the contract for stadium seating and concessions around a proposed big roundabout (one of six in an 11.5 mile stretch, where two lanes are being expanded to four) in Georgia. We expect great hilarity and profits as the blue-hairs in their monster Mercedes confront the clueless jacked-up pickup truck dudes and the multiple logging trucks trying to adapt.

And another thrilling thing to see is the person going the wrong direction in the roundabout.

Next best thing to a good time.

I'm still trying to figure out how to cross the street on foot. And what's in that middle circle part? Billboards?

You put that up in Chicago and we'd have a wreck every 20 minutes, with people trying to cut through the center to pass everybody.

I think this forum's collective take on pit bulls could be equitably applied to Charger owners, as well.

Ok where is this one? I don’t remember it.
Dammit Zeke, you’re almost making it too easy here.

However, they moved it from a more prominent location to over by the five way roundabout (master class) by Old Meridian/Pennsylvania/???? (Can’t remember). Out of sight.

I can't go east of 31. Too sketchy.

There is no safe way for a bicycle rider to go straight or left in a busy roundabout. The only safe movement is to go right.

Can't say I see anyone driving those these days. Not sure who they sell those to but it's definitely not anyone in Hamilton county.
I had dinner at a new downtown Carmel place on Main Street the other night. As I was walking to the restaurant the parked cars were: Mercedes, Bentley, BMW, Mercedes.

And there are no stop signs or stoplights for them to ignore.
Why the angry emoji, CO? Bicyclists around here are notorious for ignoring traffic signs. There have been several incidents of guys being hit by cars. I always expect any person I see riding a bike on the road to do something to put themselves and others at risk. And it’s not a one-off. Happens all the time. They should all be licensed.
