I think two things contribute to those moves.
First, IU has a number of LBs who can play. Simmons and Scales are pretty proven. Gooch showed some flashes last year. Newton has some experience, along with Oliver if he can come back healthy. Then there are a couple of redshirts who pushed for time last year.
Second, IU really needs more pass rush out of the the DL, plus they lost their top pass rusher in Richardson. Mangieri and McCray should combine with Latham to give IU three solid pass rushers for the two DE spots. Add Green and Hoff inside and there is some potential for a really solid DL.
