Really good teams make us look bad.

We're a long way's from where I'd like to be.
Serious question what were you actually expecting this year because they are pretty much where I thought we would be. You do realize that we are without 5 players yesterday and 3 would have been major contributors this year. I would say that our 3rd best player Hunter as not played a second of basketball this year but you expect us to keep winning even though our roster is very thin.

Well, we DID lose on the road to the number two team in the nation. Oh, and one of our other two losses was on the road against the number one team in the nation. Of course we aren't very good.

It's sad that you have to point that out to the malcontents.

fwiw some of the people bitching also had the lowest expectations for our season.

Conclusion: some people just like to bitch.

Not gonna be popular here, but not sure why Archie can’t get this team fired up. Gonna be a long year for IU in the BIG. Archie has a lot of work to do.
He cant migacally heal the injures. I'm sorry, but its not just 1 or 2 players. Its most of our bench.

well, even if you accept that, and I don't with the injuries we've had, it's still an improvement from last year when not so good teams (ISU and IPFW) made us look bad!

I agree. I can't believe expectations this early in CAM campaign. It is not as if the prior coaching staff left the program in stellar condition - it takes time to get it turned around. I believe they have made great progress - losing is not fun and slow starts are frustrating but over time it will get better. Considering all the injuries I am excited to be where we are at.

Really good teams are better than us on their home court. Thanks for the update.

I'm trying to avoid working, so I got bored and did a little research. Archie's best comp is Tony Bennett. They play the same defense and place the same emphasis on it, but play different offenses. Both were heady point guards and sons of coaches. Both came to their jobs from lesser programs after working their way up. Bennett didn't field a championship caliber team until year 5 at Virginia. In year 4, he missed the tournament for the 3rd time 4 years. Since then, they've been championship caliber every year but one, and they still finished 12th in the kenpom ratings in 2017 when they weren't quite as good.

Miller is younger, and will post better statistical numbers on BOTH sides of the ball in both year 1 and year 2 compared to Bennett. Granted, IU has some advantages over Virginia in recruiting, but they're still an ACC team that has gotten as high as a 1 seed in the tournament repeatedly. And Miller projects to be better than Bennett across the board. Romeo is a better recruit than anyone who has ever committed to play for Bennett. Trayce Jackson-Davis probably will be too, when the final rankings come out.

Not every coach improves on the same curve, and there's no guarantee that Miller will exceed Bennett. But there's also no reason to think he won't, at this point. Even with the injuries this year, we are a clear tournament team that could pull an upset and win a few games, or get upset in the first round, like anyone can. Anyone complaining about Miller at this point either has an agenda or unrealistic expectations.

I don't think the slow starts are a function of early foul trouble and/or road conf games. We've had slow starts at home against cupcakes too.
Yes we have, but in those home game we could rely on RL and JM to pick up the slack by not being benched.

You don't think a lack of scoring is a function of playing unexpected stretches without your best players, or playing much better competition in their place?

OK.... I may not think daylight is a function of the sun, but that doesn't make it less so!

They're starting slow with Morgan and Langford on the floor.

UC Davis led throughout the 1st half with a double digit lead. Didn't score our 10th point until the 8:26 mark when we cut it to 11. Morgan and Langford finished the game with 2 fouls each. Home game.

Butler - Morgan finishes with 2 fouls and Langford with 3. Didn't score until 16:47 mark and didn't break 10 pts until 11:02 when they cut Butler's lead to 6. Nuetral court.

Jacksonville - Didn't break 10 points until 14:03 when they cut the JU lead to 2. Took us 4 min to get to 7 pts and take out first lead. Morgan finished with 2 fouls and Langford was called for 1. Home game.

We gotta fix the slow starts. It's gonna kill us in conference play.

Not sure I would be overly worried about losing to the 2nd ranked team on the road, also considering our health situation. Don’t think the situation is as dire as you make it out to be.

Are there problems that need to be addressed? Sure. And I guess it depends on how you define “long ways”...

Archie is behind the eight ball the roster needs more talent Creans recruiting was bad after Zeller class. Next year I think were even better atleast depth wise. To me this roster is super deep and athletic wish we had some shooters aka Zeisloft..

PG Phinisee, Green
SG Durham, Brooks?, Franklin,
SF Smith, Hunter, Anderson
PF Jackson-Davis, Forrester, Thompson
C Davis, Moore

You're proving my point. 2 fouls each into the first 4 minutes does not allow them to come back from slow starts

I'm not even sure what you're arguing or what my post has to do with proving your point.

Neither one was in foul trouble in the games I mentioned as evidence of slow starts not being dependent on foul trouble or playing better opponents. Langford played 39 min against UCD and Morgan played 40. They both played 30+ against Butler & Jacksonville.

IU's depth is wearing street clothes.
