Reality check for the anti-Beard folks…

State of college football and basketball coaches…
It is weird on white “big name” coaches are.

National title game in football was two guys that were promoted to head coaching roles at current school. Ryan Day and Marcus Freeman.

Top basketball team in the country Duke has a promoted assistant as head coach.

Other top 10 teams this year:
Oates-Bama hired from Buffalo
Golden- Florida hired from San Francisco
Izzo- promoted from ast coach (1 title)
Tj Otz- ISU hired him from UNLV
Gard- promoted from assist
McGasland- Texas tech hired from North Texas

Other top ten teams: Barnes at Tennesee (no titles), Pearl at Auburn(no titles), Houston Sampson (no titles), Pitino (2 titles)

So I guess the argument is who is the big name coaches currently that are no brainers?

If I am IU I’m pushing hard on a young coach like TJ Otz, McGasland or a legit true quick winner like Pearl, Few or Jay Wright. They say no, you go after these young guys.

If I was going to bet the house on one person, I would say Cronin. He just seems like the most likely fall back candidate when Dull Son can't get who he really wants. It's also a "safe" pick in that he's unlikely to be a disaster. The national media would not give him grief.

Personally, if we can't land a big fish I'd like to see us go for an up and comer, with McCollum and Otz being the most prominent.

I see the odds as follows as of now:

--Cronin..........12%
--Drew.............10%
--Stevens.......10%
--Few................10%
--Beard............10%
--McCullom....10%
--Otz.................10%
--DeVries.........5%
--May.................5%
--McCasland...4%
--Byington.......4%
--Pearl...............3%
--Brownell........3%
--Buzz................3%
--Shertz.............1%
My response would be:

--Drew.............15%
--Otz.................15%
--T. Bennett... 15%
--McCullum....10%
--Cronin..........8%
--McCasland...5%
--Byington.......4%
--Brownell........4%
--Buzz................4%

No Chance:
--Pearl...............3%
--Stevens.......0%

--Few................0%
--Beard............0%
--May.................0%

Mark Few should be -1,000%. He's been saying "no" to teams for years; he'll retire a Zag.

Drew/Baylor appears to be a pretty happy marriage. Hell, they might be soul mates.

Imo, Stevens is more probable than Drew.
