Reality check for the anti-Beard folks…

I’m really seeing and hearing a tsunami of support for Beard right now out there in the fanbase. People seem to be pretty passionate about it too. My sympathies to Scott Dolson if he actually isn’t the choice…
Cannot fathom both Dolson and Whitten staking their careers on Chris Beard.

Hiring a loser coach is one thing, hiring a guy that did what he did potentially doing it again...?

The fans definitely want it. These things always blow over. They always do with time. Announcers were gushing over Sampson and Pitiino this weekend. Not a mention of any of their past. Sports has always been known for players and coaches doing questionable things and it’s all forgotten with wins and time.

That and the firestorm they have to deal with if they hire him. Very unlikely for any big brand program to hire him right now.

Once again this is just a prediction, I don’t care if someone wants him hired or not.

ND had a regular season strength of schedule of 57. IU had a regular season SOS of 67.

Now what is this argument you keep putting forth?

It’s nonsense. In fact, going into the CFP, both teams were criticized for their SOS.
Hmmn..iu did t have a win over a .500 team. ND had wins over top 25 Texas A&M on the road, Louisville was ranked when they beat them, navy and Army were both undefeated and ranked when ND beat them, winning metal sight over Gatech and won at USC. Then Rattled off 3 straight top 10 wins.
If you think the schedules are that close then ok lol.

Michigan went 8-5 and beat the national champion. Nebraska went 7-6.

Congrats on your best wins being over mid-majors who had good years. Quite an accomplishment to classify G5 wins as among your best of the regular season when you're a CFB blue blood.

Disagree. Just because only 6,000 students show up doesn't mean the alumni and guests feel that way

Dolson needs to sell 1,500 of those student seats to the public.

And just because you feel a certain way doesn’t mean other alumni and guests feel that way.

That logic goes both ways

Texas A&M was a different team on the back half. Different QB when ND beat them.

Game one at Texas A&M in prime time isn’t an easy place to win. Also they looked better before the QB switch as far as W and L go. They didn’t swap qb’s until week 9
Weigman was 7-1 as the starter and Reed was 1-4 down the stretch as the starter.

Take it to the ND board.

A portion of the fans want him and I would not describe it as a large portion. I also think it is a porton more heavily skewed toawd non-grads.

The only big program that would take this risk is KY

Funny. I mean both Ky schools chose Pope and Kelsey over Beard? People still dismiss all the stuff out there rumor or not. Whomever Vetoed it(if it happened at all) sounds pretty high up.
Please! You act like you know the reason they didn’t choose Beard. It just may not have been the path they wanted to go or maybe he wanted more money then they were willing to go. I mean how many schools have interviewed coaches and passed on them. Stop acting like you know the reason they didn’t hire Beard. Ass u me got it.

Sounds like we will pass too but you do you. I for one don’t care if we do or don’t but keep dismissing the nuggets left for you.

Pope played at Kentucky. That could have something to do with their choice. No idea why Ville chose Kelsey. It may have nothing to do with Beard even if you keep clinging to that narrative.

I won’t apologize for that stance. 100% he was on those lists and Pope…you freaking kidding?

I always have felt hitting a girl is about as low as you can go. However, I have seen girls that should be knocked out in situations. You have read more about this than I have but no idea how nuts she was. Could be all him for sure.

I doubt he will ever do this again tho. More likely to break a tv with a bat in front of her next time.
I received a long message from someone from Texas who described the situation in detail with Beard doing very little in an attempt to defend himself and defuse the action. Beard is without question the best fit for the job. With that said, I did not think he stood a very good chance already and I have also had a conversation with someone this week that left me feeling more convinced that Beard is simply a no-go here.

That’s a shame

These things blow over until the same thing happens again. Then, the AD and Prez are gonzo , too.

Was it an accident or intentional that you failed to mention the home loss to a MAC team? Not sure where that factors in to all of this talk about schedules….but you do you!

First, the "no charges were filed" argument is factually incorrect--charges were indeed filed but later dropped. Second, a DA isn't likely to move forward in such a circumstance without the victim's cooperation. Had she been a cooperating witness, there's a high probability it would have gone to trial or been plea-bargained.

For the purpose of a high-level, public job such as Indiana, for example, the facts of the case and public perception are more consequential than whether CB was brought to trial. A middling D1 program like Ole Miss was willing to deal with all that to grab a coach it couldn't otherwise attract; he was available to them for a reason. If a higher profile school were willing to take the risk, he would never had ended up in Oxford. Moreover, whether the incident occurred when he was coaching or not is immaterial; it goes to character.

Let's assume, for a moment, that Beard is a viable option and Dolson & Co. are currently vetting him. I'm sure they're considering the aforementioned details and much more; they have access to loads more information than we do. And I'm sure they're also factoring in that this occurred two years ago and (presumably) nothing of that nature has repeated itself.

Since, again, Dolson and crew have more information than we do, I'm sure they're looking into everything. If they decide Beard--the person and coach--is the best hire, then let's rock n' roll.

But, imo, logic dictates it won't be CB. For one, the Sampson debacle, while circumstantially different, is nonetheless similar; IU hired a person with known "baggage" and it Titan submersible'd the program. Furthermore, there are other good candidates without such a history ... and Beard, will undeniably a good coach, isn't Bob Knight 2.0. So, then, why would IU open up itself to scrutiny when there are other good coaching options out there?

I'm looking at this from Dolson's and IU's perspective, not that of a fan desperate for wins above everything else. Perception matters. Optics matter. I'm sure they're weighing the risk/reward of hiring CB. And, if there have been no other similar instances, they likely don't forsee it happening again. If it did, however, it would be an awful look, especially with the Sampson hire still in IU's (somewhat) recent history and collective consciousness. Furthermore, if it happed again, those involved in the hire would suffer major professional consequences.

If you'd like to offer a counteratgument, I'll be more than happy to listen and keep an open mind.

That's the answer. Curt Miller, Matt Lynch and Chris Burns. More successful and experienced than our current staff. Never made the mistake of having the wrong girlfriend. We'd definitely have an identity and culture. The splashiest most fabulous hire ever.

Not that there’s anything wrong with it..
