"Radical left" lady moves to progressive utopia; ends up in battle w/ teachers union

I hear ya, pal. The truth is there just isn't much room left for guys like us. To speak plainly, men. We're being pushed aside by a new generation - a generation of younger guys. Guys like OutsideShooter. Guys that don't even want to be white anymore to be candid. I too am grateful for the life I've led, but it's time. Time to make way for this new generation. We had our run; I guess....

I'm white. I have no issue being white. I have no issues with there being enough room for me to express myself in any forum.

Quit playing the victim.

I'm being facetious with my friend, Hillz. Piss off.

You probably shouldn’t call them “guys” without getting it approved by them first. It likely doesn’t want male pronouns used...😉

Suck it up, buttercup. I didn't realize you weren't serious.
He’s jaded cynical not serious. He gave up. It’s the apathy of losing as a spectator in politics.

It’s the bigoted selfishness that can’t see that caring about a fair playing field for others is a loving attitude, not a hatred of being white.

Reopening schools has nothing to do with unions. Also, teachers have zero control over what parents do with their kids outside of school

Vaccinate the teachers and reopen the schools a couple weeks later. That’s far cheaper than properly disinfecting the school premises nightly and daily.
Vaccines will be the next flash point. Teachers unions wanting to continue remote learning after teachers are vaccinated. Numbers are relevant, but won't be relevant much longer with regards to school openings.

I'm not really a fan of teachers' unions. Much of what they claim to fight for should be legislated in at the state level. Teachers are underpaid and under appreciated.

Relative to COVID, when it comes to health issues, teachers are no less important than the students they serve, and if they don't feel the school has produced the safety features necessary to reduce the risk of transmission, it makes sense they would be hesitant or unwilling to return.

Teachers needed to be up there with first responders on the vaccine priority list.

That said, where I live it's been 100% elementary school, 50-50 middle school and high school. Parents also have the option of totally virtual. However, there have been a couple of conversions to virtual learning days when a school was unable to have enough teachers/staff to function in-school.

Sounds like the school initially didn't do enough with safety equipment and implementation of safety protocols.

They don't face the same risk. Why should they have the same priority?

Because they stand in front of 20-30 kids, sometimes as many as six different sets of 20-30 kids, teaching our kids. Schools which are open for even hybrid schedules, the teachers should be toward right after first responders.

Dude...you're replying to a two week old message. A lot has changed since then, including who can get vaccinated.

Their never-ending stupity is quy
These people are heroes and we should pay them more

Chicago Teachers Union votes to refuse in-person work, defy Chicago Public Schools’ reopening plan - Chicago Sun-Times

It's not just the Union leadership. 71% of staff favoring the rejection of in-person work.

No better example exists of the product of application of blue state ideology.

Good to see you walking it back. Earlier you said that "Teachers need to be up there with first responders on the vaccine priority list"

They should also be after the elderly, obviously.

Teachers should be at the front of the line and should be required to teach in person once they're all vaccinated. If they refuse the vaccine then they should be discharged.

I'm not walking anything back. They needed to be toward the top of the priority list. They put themselves at a great risk through exposure.

Real life smacks idealist in the face when she has to battle the machine she's long supported.

Teacher's unions are not ever on the side of students, families or education. They should be destroyed, IMHO.

you're being a moron.

and are we really going to blame teachers' unions for the impossible position schools and families have been put in by covid?

that said, i wonder how much of the school debate is really about govt provided school, and how much it is really about govt provided child care..

and the loudest bitchers about losing both, are the socialism is the devil crowd.

Weird how the people most likely to have complained about Trump not following the science on Covid are now the most likely to ensure that the science is not being followed on school reopening.

Don't live in a progressive dominated hell hole if you have children. Or cough up for private schools, which are booming.

Most of the elementary education majors at IU were raspy voiced, J.A.P.'s that would leave Kilroy's with a trash can if that's all that was left at 2 AM.

I know because I was that trash can.

And we wonder why China is going to enslave us.

They all had great GPA's to their credit. I'm talking like 3.8+.

I can't attest to how difficult their classes were........ "Playing With Blocks" and "Don't Eat the Glue 101" may be tough courses for all I know.

Biden promised to "follow the science" on COVID and school reopening. Instead, he put his scientists in a room with teachers union presidents, and the result is guidance that will keep school doors shut come fall. What an absolute travesty.

No argument from me. That said, this school year has been a waste anyway. You'll never convince me that the online or hybrid approach has come anywhere close to moving kids along in their education. Some here might recall I advocated for dispensing with the charade altogether last year and just giving everyone a gap year.

Public sector unions have long enjoyed the job-creating utility of the ratio...kids per teacher, prisoner per guard, and my wife tells me, patients per nurse. The CDC has now delivered to teachers unions one of the cleverest ratios yet: 6-feet separation in school buildings, indefinitely.

American Academy of Pediatrics from June: "6 feet between students is not feasible without drastically limiting the number of students. Schools should weigh the benefits of strict adherence to a 6-feet spacing rule between students with the potential downside if remote learning is the only alternative."

The teachers pay the union dues so they are the ones represented. The one in FW is pretty weak sauce, the teachers are basically guilted into paying the due. I cannot remember what the due is here, i told my wife not to pay it, fwiw. I agree, unions had their time and place, but in most cases now they are superfluous.
Unions I have 1st hand experience with tend only to protect those who really do not want to work.

"the guidance makes it difficult to do what's best for the country's children: to get all students, in all grades, into classrooms five days a week, in person."
