Purdue hired Barry Odom

Can match UNLV's NIL promise non-payment to QB Sluka just fine at Purdue. Good choice. He understands the terrain.

Much will depend on who he's able to bring with him...If his OC decides to stay at UNLV (as their next HC) their road to recovery (from 1 W to 3) will be much more rocky than they expect it to be...

*Edited to reflect the UNLV senior laden roster.

Think I read where UNLV is one of the oldest teams in the country, more so than IU. Believe all but 4-5 of their starters are seniors and the best one with eligibility remaining is a projected 2nd day pick.

Be interesting to see if he brings his OC who believe is in consideration for UNLV’s now open HC vacancy.

Damn. I was wrong. Wouldn’t think he would leave. Hate to say it, this is a great hire. Is he bringing his staff?

There are tons of examples of mid major success and P5 “meh.” This kind of looks like that. A Scott Frost perhaps. (Who just went back to UCF)

I hope he does decent. I don't wish bad on anyone. Just do no better than mid, and always lose to Indiana is all I ask. Be good enough to knock off teams when it helps IU . Be of some use.

He did have UNLV playing pretty well.

Some people start getting soft in their old age. Purdue is the worst. Always hope for the worst.

You're right, looks like only a RB, a DE and a LB are underclassmen starters... (I edited my earlier post accordingly).

Unless he brings his OC with him it's a nothing hire, in my opinion...

You can find the right coach though like IU did as you hire from mid major.

Cig had way more than 2 years. It was a book at that point. Teams like Purdue and IU need X’s and O’s more because the Jimmy’s and Joe’s will never be there.

I don’t. I hope he fails miserably and they contemplate removing Purdue from the conference. And someone lights Purdue Pete on fire and watch him flail around with the big big eyes still wide as he’s engulfed in flames.

My brother in law is a Mizzou grad and avid fan. His take is that Odom is a very good coach but struggled at Mizzou following Gary Pickel. He was in his late 30’s and a first time head coach. Sounds like PU made a good hire, especially if he brings his staff and key payers. Rats!

He can promise the moon on NIL. And get talent. They won't know they aren't getting paid until September!

Actually, I would think with revenue share, any B1G team should be able to field a competitive team. They just need to be the best at sorting the mid-major wheat from the chaff. Tough, sure, since teams with more NIL like us are needing to do the same.

I hear that Purdue fans have indicated that Odom will be taking over the conference and he is HOF material and will sign a top-10 class this year with only a few weeks to recruit. Also, Matthew Sluka is heading to Purdue with promises of a $10 million NIL deal. Purdue has over $2.5 billion sitting in an untapped NIL fund. Oh, and Pedophile Pete never touched any of those kids and it was a fabricated story.

iirc he applied for the IU job a year ago but I don’t remember if he was a finalist or not

think Jason Candle was in the mix a year ago as well
