Preseason polls and power rankings are not super helpful. Really the entire premise of ranking teams before they have even played a down is kind of questionable.
There aren’t enough data. There isn’t enough information.
But we love our preseason polls anyway! Here is my way-too-early-not-enough-info B1G Power Ranking:
Rnk | Tm | Pts | Avg
1. Ohio St 28 (1.0)
2. Wisconsin 25 (5.5)
3. Penn State 25 (6.0)
4. Michigan 21 (16.5)
5. Minnesota 18 (20.0)
6. Iowa 17 (21.0)
7. Indiana 17 (22.0)
8. Nebraska 14 (27.5)
9. Northwestern 13 (31.5)
10. Purdue 10 (44.0)
11. Michigan St 9 (49.0)
12. Illinois 7 (49.0)
13. Maryland 3 (64.5)
14. Rutgers 3 (71.0)
Methodology: I ranked every Big Ten Team 1-14 according to SP+ and FPI. First place equals 14 points, 2nd 13, 3rd 12 etc. I combined the points for both indexes for a total. The tie-breaker is average overall ranking in both indexes.
p.s. I'm baaaaack lolol
