If I played for Michigan i would have been planning that well in advance and I’d have had a buddy on the bench with my phone charged with getting a selfie of me planting it. Then it’d be on my office wall. Forever

I think not. I’ve been to five OSU-Michigan games, four IU-PU games and three UofL-UK games and never saw anyone attempt it. It’s exceedingly rare. The only time I recall ever seeing it was Baker Mayfield doing it when Oklahoma beat OSU. It’s a classless move guaranteed to start a fight with possible suspensions. If I was the Michigan coach I’d chew that players ass to make the point my team isn’t classless - and we beat their asses on the field where it’s supposed to happen.

Every time I watch a Colts play (very little) and a player jumps up and starts dancing when he makes a tackle after the opposition has gained 10 yards I think what are you dancing about. They act like they've never made a tackle before.

TD celebrations are permitted as part of the game now as long as there is no taunting. Taunting is a penalty. Planting the flag is taunting on steroids. Totally classless too.

The way players act today is the reason I don't watch much sports. They can't be satisfied with just a great play or a great win. They want to shove it in the other team's/player's face. I know some of you aren't old enough to remember seeing Mickey Mantle play but when he hit a home run he had a habit of running the bases with his head down. The reason: He figured the pitcher already felt bad enough without him showing him up rounding the bases. Can you imagine that in today's game?
But like someone said above in today's sports "What goes around comes around" so if you're gonna do something classless take it like a man when it's done to you. But I agreed with the way RMK handled things.... no matter what other teams did to him he wanted his players and fans to act with class.

This IU team seems to do a lot less woofing and flexing and strutting than others, but that could just be my IU bias.
Planting a flag at center field, not shaking hands, posturing after a touchdown…all add entertainment value to the sport. If players always remained polite, never acting out of the norm, scripted in courtesy, what fun would that be? Let gladiators do what they’re bred to do.

Yes I agree but Oklahoma started a trend at OSU after they won. Do yo remember in 1996 after OSU beat IU Bloomington, awarded the Rose Bowl that minutes ... they tore down the goal posts at Memorial Stadium. Too bad we didn't have smart phones then to take photos as I was there. IMO OSU deserved that zero class move.
I have attended Washington-Oregon games in both stadiums. Have never seen it and they hate each other possibly more than IU-Purdue.

There are lines that aren’t to be crossed and result in penalties when they’re crossed during a game. Planting a flag at the center of an opponent’s field is a bright red line after any game. It’s the worst kind of sportsmanship and guaranteed to start a fight, which it did.
You think Coach Knight would have allowed anything like this from his players? Think Coach Cig would allow this?
I think it’s much ado about nothing. Michigan earned the right to plant their flag. Ohio State should have kept running to the locker room in shame, as dogs with their tails between their legs. Let the victor enjoy the moment. If OSU doesn’t like it, then win the game like they were supposed to. Use the flag planting as incentive to win next year, if this act in jubilation hasn’t been forgotten by then, fully digested as a nothing burger and flushed, which it smells like to me.

From yesterday. It's been going on forever. During play of the game, run up the score all you want, but don't be disrespectful once the whistle blows and the game is over.
