Paying Some Respect

We're about to lose one of the greats.

I thank God for Aretha Franklin.

And before she became an R&B singer she was marketed as a jazz singer by Columbia Records.

Also, the guy who signed her to Columbia - Jack Hammond - also signed Count Basie, Billie Holliday, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen . . . and putting together the Bennie Goodman orchestra was his idea, too. What a career . . . .

Saw her at the Indy JazzFest in the early 2000’s....glad I did!
I was just listening to one of her songs and thought how her voice would sound in concert. It is cool you had that experience.

When we lose a great talent like this, I think about who those performers are today that we will be celebrating in the future. She is one of those that came at a time that will make it nearly impossible for any other performer to equal her influence. The Queen of Soul is a title that simply can't be passed on to another.

Anyone know who this heaving chested lass with ingmar Bergman is?

There will never be another voice like hers. True greatness. The Tom Brady of her profession. Respect indeed!
