Hi Folks - RU fan coming to the game, my son is in IU grad school and great chance to see my son, daughter in law, grandson and hopefully a good game. I have tickets but not sure about parking. probably not going to tailgate much. Should I get parking pass, any lots better than others for getting in and out? Any other options?

Thanks for any help and congrats on the great start, guess having a terrific QB play (rather than hurt) does make a big difference.

You don't need to get a parking pass.
Do you know where your son lives in relation to the stadium? Just south of the stadiums is a lot of houses. If your son lives in that area you can easily just walk to the stadium.

The south side of the stadium is on 17th. I used to park around 11th street and Indiana for free and walk the 6 blocks ( havent been to a game in 2 years so I dont know if it will be free still). It also will allow you to walk through the main tailgating lots. Great people watching.

Thanks Meathead, son lives pretty far away, near the country club and we're staying on Frankin. Good to know we can find parking on the street, even if it's homecoming?

Several lots directly around the stadium. If you want asphalt, we have that. If you want grass, we have those as well. $20 to park. Enjoy your visit!

IU is a rarity in that virtually all of the parking is very close to the stadium. Many upgrades the last couple of years but the north and south sides have pay lots that are excellent. Go south if you prefer wooded lots. Pony up the $20 and park close.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if you aren't pulling into a lot at least an hour before kickoff, you aren't going to get a spot in the pay lots at the stadium. They will turn away those with parking passes as well. This happened to us on 2 different occasions, even if you have a season parking pass. Once they fill, regardless of pay at the gate or with a season pass, you're SOL.

Are you sure of this? Bought a pass for the purple lot and due to other obligations Saturday AM, may not make it until a half hour before kick off. Am I screwed? thanks.

You really should try to come and tailgate in the grassy fields for awhile. Quite an experience.

Not that big of a deal even if it is full. They will point you somewhere else that will be nearby. Worst case scenario is you are across 46 but I doubt it for the Rutgers game.

Come early and park on one of the streets south of the stadium. The walk will do you good

The only issue I have with the lots 9-11 is sometimes they screw up traffic and you can sit in the lot forever. For basketball, they allow two way traffic on the roads that border lots 9-11 and that bottles everyone up in the lot. I wish they would just send traffic in all lanes in one direction for a half hour after the game. We have been parking in Lot 2 and have avoided that mess.

We have parked in the neighborhood near the stadium. It isn't too bad of a walk as long as the weather is good. I would rather walk a distance than pay $20 to sit in a parking lot for 30-45 minutes without moving. If I bring my wife, we would pay the $20.

Charlie - if you are talking about the Rutgers game, my guess is you WILL be able to park in the lots around the stadium - entering Gate 10 or 11. Unless we beat Ohio State and/or Penn State, the Rutgers game will not likely be a sell out.

If you are talking about the Ahia State game, no way - parking lots around the stadium will be full by the time you arrive, and buying a parking lot pass will be a waste of money.

HOWEVER, if you go to the BACK SIDE of the grass lots (enter from 14th Street) you may get in there, even that late.

At 11th and Fee is a free parking garage - might get lucky.

If you can walk a bit, we sometimes park at the Memorial Union (7th Street and Woodlawn) and walk out, or park anywhere between 7th and 17th and walk out.

Thanks again guys, lots of good options and thanks Zeke, if time permits, tailgate might be in order. It is the RU game I'm talking about so guessing all the options mentioned will all be open.

Good luck against the Buckeyes, not impossible and would be a a great story, plus maybe you'd overlook us a little;)
