I don't think it has anything to do with the "modern game". The most entertaining bball right now, is in the NBA. If you like precise and quick passing and great shooting along with athleticism, and suprisingly good D, the NBA is great ball. The folks who bitch about the "NBA game" probably haven't watched one in 20 years. It's like the difference in clock management between college football and the NFL; the pros are just way better at it.

After watching our games so far, and as passionate of fan as i have been since the late 80s, this is the first time I have been apathetic for our team. Coach is a liability and i can't believe the lack of hustle and adjustments i'm seeing out of the team. I don't think i can support the team until Woodson is relieved of his duties. This post is simply meant for me to vent, i wish no ill will on the program. i just want to see this thing get fixed sooner than later.

What everyone calls a modern offense is basically hitting 3s. It doesn't matter what the teams run to do it. If a team hits 10 threes in transition or quick hits and never even run a half court set people here still call it a modern offense.

Offense is fairly homogenized with everyone running the same shit. IU runs modern actions to get the ball inside. It doesn't run many actions with emphasis on getting 3s up. Baseline pin downs and double drags, and sometimes high post staggered screens to free Mack up, is about it.

The offense is modern, the emphasis of where it wants to get the shot, is not.

I've followed Hoosiers since Lou Watson days and this is the first year that I cannot get enthused by the team play. Spending money on guys that aren't great fits as a unit. Last year at least Ware looked like he cared and played hard. I followed Crean through the early years and while it started with a bunch of walk ons, they at least looked like they cared. The instant gratification money has eliminated the motivation to play for the honor of the chosen university. And yet only a small percentage will ever play 1 game in NBA. Losing an Indiana kid like Mullins pretty well sucked. Woodson doesn't even try to finish with top level HS kids because the easier,lazier path is NIL tranfers. While they may have game experience, it doesn't count for wanting to play for IU per se. They are hired Hessian soldiers only. I've watched Crean,Miller sink IU but Woodson has beat them all. His apathy for making a team cohesive is bottom level. Very few Hoosiers can play and coach at IU-Maybe Wittman,Smart and that's about it. That has passed us by. This kind of play that Woodson has incorporated has me watching maybe 15 minutes and changing channels. I watched the SC game in person and saw how hard it was to expand a lead for IU until late in game. They have no real toughness and now Mgbako is playing poorly. Everyone seems to regress under Woodson. Unless your uber talented to begin with-TJD, JHS or Ware.

I don’t give two shits if the offense looks modern, futuristic or from the 90’s. I know what good basketball looks like on offense and defense, and we are looking good. We have spurts of quality play, but we fall to pieces for large stretches and Woodson doesn’t know what to do. Our coaching staff is crap.

Trey is over 50, Rice and Mack are over 40, and Goode is at 36 but trending up. That's 4 more than capable shooters .

Keith Smart's best 3-point shooting average for a season was 36%. Are Galloway, Mgbako, Goode, Rice really better bets to shoot 3-pointers than Smart?

Surely, there is something else besides a nominal shooting average.

That's what I've been saying. Some of these other guys don't like it because they label the low post game as "old-fashioned." Apparently, they want to see "modern" high-arching 3-pointers that miss badly. Our shooters aren't very good.

Reneau and Ballo play the high/low post game very well together. They also clog the defensive end when they are in at the same time. As I pointed out, Woodson started playing only one of them at a time in the second half against Nebraska -- that's when Nebraska started to drive aggressively to the basket, outnumbering either Reneau or Ballo (whoever was alone underneath at the time).

As far as the rest of your post. If you can't do the simple math required why are you even speaking on the matter? Yes 43% at 3.4 per game is far better than 36% at 1 per game.
