Pains me to say this

My IU friends (older than 60) have been season ticket holders at times, attended many games over their years, grew up playing basketball in high school BUT do NOT get on any forums or X or anything else ... have stopped going to games. Some don't even follow anymore and only a couple will listen to Don and Eric on the radio but tell me they usually end up turning the game off.

Who knows, we all may be too old to have enough patience for "the modern game".
That's a fair point. Regardless of the reason, it demonstrates a lack or drop of interest and engagement.

I don't think it has anything to do with the "modern game". The most entertaining bball right now, is in the NBA. If you like precise and quick passing and great shooting along with athleticism, and suprisingly good D, the NBA is great ball. The folks who bitch about the "NBA game" probably haven't watched one in 20 years. It's like the difference in clock management between college football and the NFL; the pros are just way better at it.

Fans are just frustrated. Last night less than half way through the second half, a long time season ticket holder across else from me got up and left. All these years I never heard him bitch at the refs, coaches or players. He just cheered for the team. As he was leaving last night he disgustingly said “I am so tired of this”. That pretty much summed it up for most sitting in the morgue last night.
It's not so much Woody for me as it is the NIL and knowing these guys are getting paid - and next year by the schools directly.

Different generation and values. I'm glad I grew up and lived in the era I did, when Indiana/Midwest players played for their school. I'm not naive - I know they had perks. But I guarantee Scott May would not be driving around town in his '67 Impala today like he did in 1976.

IU is quickly becoming like the Pacers to me. I want them to do well, but if they don't, it doesn't bother me much at all.

And that's a HUGE change. My family thinks I suffer from depression. lol

The problem for IU is Woodson refuses to play the “modern” game. Kids like Mullin who will be Mr Basketball don’t want to come to IU and throw the ball down low to a big man and stand around hoping he might pass it back out for a 3 point shot.

Woodson’s offense is ugly and seems to lead to long scoring droughts.

Think I heard Braylon had 43 the other night? Appreciate IN HS updates if anyone keeps track of the local HS scene.

I have surprised myself because I feel the same way as you ... BUT the RMK era and even after him I still taped every game and would watch a game 3-4 times and maybe later years later. In 2019 I was downsizing to move from Indiana to Arizona and gave away for free, 507 VCR tapes where each tape had 3-4 IU games depending on if I was there to tape it and pause through the commercials or included. Now I know in 2019 everything had moved to DVDs and I even had a machine to transfer those VCR tapes to DVD ... the point is over 35 years of taped IU basketball games given away for free.

Now I can find most any game to watch with a search on YouTube but I rarely do that. I use to be really pissed off with any basketball game where IU lost. Like many fans/alums, my schedule was always around IU basketball where the world stopped if they were playing a game.

Not anymore ... "I want them to do well, but if they don't, it doesn't bother me much at all."

The NBA and NFL are equally dull to watch.

and ... if that ball goes to Reneau or Mgbako .... you are not seeing it again under any circumstances. Oh Malik does pass on the high low to Ballo but not if it is passed directly to him for him to make his move. He is very good with his semi left hook type of shot but too many times neither will pass to the open man.

The NBA regular season is awful. It's like break dance fighting. I came back to watching it two years ago mostly because of Jokic. I liked the high post stuff they ran through him. Obviously a lot of individuals capable of making jaw dropping displays of shot making, but it's not basketball until the playoffs.

So just exactly which "open man" on the outside do you want him to pass to? Mbako is the only player on that team who has proven with a large enough sample size that he can shoot 3-pointers consistently. And he's part of our front line.

Ballo played a good game v. Minnesota, and if Ballo gets the ball underneath, I want him to go up and dunk it, not pass outside.

To get what you want, you should be griping that there is not enough emphasis on developing (or recruiting) better shooters.

that's a bit simplistic. Even with all the criticism of CMW I have faith in he and Ballo, that if Ballo has an uncontested dunk, that's what he's doing. But a post touch is an excellent way to free up shooters if perimeter defenders are cheating in or digging. A post who sees the whole floor and knows where/how to pass the ball is super valuable. I think our shooters would be fine this year, if they are focusing on taking high quality shots and moving the ball if not. Our offense just doesn't emphasize the 3 enough to get up a decent # of 3s.

I don't watch either regularly either, but it's not because of the quality of the game and performances, which are amazing. I just don't feel tied to or invested in any pro team like I do IU. I can sit down and watch about any NBA game and be wowed by the athleticism and play. Sadly, that tie feels like it's waning, but I sure hope I can get to the point of believing in the program enough to get back to there. I know it can happen, because it's happened with football!
