OT: IU Kokomo Headed to NAIA Sweet 16 in Kansas City

Head Coach Eric Echelbarger has done an excellent job building the program and developing a recruiting pipeline in the Indy area. The Cougars have gone 91-20 since he became the head coach before the 2018-19 season. The team has only been around since the 2012-13 season, but before Echelbarger arrived had a record of 62-125. Former Butler player and current Butler assitant Roosevelt Jones was an assistant coach at IUK under Echelbarger for 2 years, and was replaced by former Kokomo Wildkat and Evansville stand out D.J. Ballentine this season.

That is my alma mater......well I took two classes there which I later transferred to my degree from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. It sounds like Coach Echelbarger is a coach on the rise.

He's not afraid to have them play against NCAA D-1 competition, either. In 2019-20, the played an exhibition game against Butler (lost 40-70) and a regular season game against Evansville (lost 71-89, it was the game after Evansville beat then #1 Kentucky) and played Ball St this season (lost 85-58). Ball St only outscored IUK 32-28 in the 2nd half (Ball St lead 53-30 at halftime) and Ball St's bench only scored 24 points (IUK's had 10). I think it was the same way but closer throughout the whole game when IUK played Evansville.
