You know she bought this idea fully and completely - that $21T was just 'missing' - when she pushed this out. The DOD has never been appropriated that much money in it's existence...

People make mistakes....but this ventures well into the land of gullible stupidity. More specifically....shows one how out of touch she is with the fiscal reality of her policy 'ideas'....which amount to little more than political slogans.

Are you surprised? Her comments over the last few months are nothing short of embarrassing.

She’s not ready for prime time. But I think we all knew that. She’s embarrassing at times- but, she may still have a future later. Maybe.

That’s the problem with jumping in before you’re a little seasoned. Political talent will take you part of the way, but knowing your stuff is critical where she’s going. It’s a tough balance between going for the opportunity, and being ready enough.

She’s the anti- GHW Bush, in other words ;)

Here's another:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she paid twice as much for insurance as a waitress as she will in Congress

As an employee of a bar, who would have thought her costs would be lower when spread over millions of employees?

Really? You are bitching about that? Seems like a perfectly good point for her to make. The fact that a bar employee is not able to be part of a risk pool with millions of others is not some fact of nature...it is a political choice that she specifically proposes changing. Score: 0 JDB and 1 AOC.

Fer Christsakes...she is about billion-times more sentient than your average Republican Congressman to say nothing of the GOP's recent Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates. A breath of fresh air.

The writing was on the wall with her days after that infamous ad she made was released as she started to garner attention.

She’s a know-nothing. In terms of policy, she is Trump’s equal. We need at least know-somethings leading us.

LOL, someone has lost their objectivity. She's building quite a nice file in Politifact and taking after our good friend, DJT. She isn't even in Congress yet.

She would be in a pool of everyone in the state of NY that gets ACA insurance.

Have you seen her reaction to the gaffe anywhere? That is what will be telling to me. I have no problem with people making mistakes. How they own them and educate themselves on them is what is telling. So, AOC has the opportunity to laugh at herself and get better, which would be a welcome departure and contrast to PDT, or not. If she does, then she'll be among the minority in the House who actually have a decent grasp on some of this stuff.

I don’t find her to be a very substantial person. She could end up being one, but she would be wise to get in, get to work and learn how policy and the system works first. Develop an expertise and then use your platform.

How does one get to that point when they do not understand basic economics?

She would be wise to hire someone very smart and very wonky on policy to be her Chief of Staff. And she should listen to that person. Or she should just go away and let someone who wants to learn and not just release soundbites be the next Congress person.

It seems pretty obvious that getting to that point (developing an expertise) would involve better understanding basic economics. You might ask yourself how one gets there without understanding basic logic.

Everybody in politics who understands basic economics only remains in politics by keeping it a closely guarded secret. As far as I can tell the set of such types who demonstrably understand economics is empty.

The idea that AOC should be disqualified for lack of economic sense it patently absurd.

She seems very immature to me. I thought she behaved very poorly toward Crowley after her victory. From the reporting I've read, many Democratic members of Congress don't care for her behavior. They want her to start leadibg and legislating instead of behaving like a protestor. Of the 4 young diverse women I've been reading about, I'm most impressed by Pressley in Massachusetts. She's very well spoken. Im extremely unimpressed with both AOC and Omar. Don't know enough about David's (Kansas) to have formed an opinion.

I struggle to understand why the occasional foibles of this particular House member are of such great interest to Republicans.

They need their next bogeywoman. AOC is left of Sanders and isn't as articulate at presenting her argument. That's the right's socialist wet dream.

While we agree on most important things, I think here is where we will have to separate. I think for some of us, especially for me, it was very clear from the beginning of her fame that she didn’t have what it was going to take to properly represent her district. Again for some of us, including me, we had the same understanding and forecasts of our current president during the election process. So to me, it seems unfair and overly partisan to rant and rave about how obviously unfit our current president is, without doing the same for her.

It’s illogical to claim that I can’t denounce the corrupt unfit imbecile unless I also fulminate against someone who (1) hasn’t even taken office yet (2) based on a standard that I suspect most House members would fail. I mean, Steve King is still a member of the House.

On January 3 ACO will become one of 438 House members. The corrupt unfit imbecile is President of the United States. That seems like rather a bigger deal to me.

I get that she may say some stoopid stuff. But we also ought to give her a chance to learn and see if she gets better. What she does have is a tremendous political instinct and charismatic personality. She is a first term house member from a very liberal district. Let's see how it goes. There is pretty much zero comparison to Trump though--in his case the stoopid things he says and does are better ascribed to utterly craven values than honest to goodness ignorance. I have seen no signs of corruption or craven values on AOC's part.

I'd ask why they are such great interest to the media....since everything she says seems to make the news feed.
I heard quite a bit about ACO after she shocked people by beating a guy who was thought to be in line to replace Pelosi. Since then, not so much. But then again, I don’t watch TV news.

I would imagine it has something to do with the press/publicity she received after her win. The fawning headlines are too numerous to quote here (though I'm sure google will produce them) but she was seemingly overnight deemed the progressive future face of the party. At least in some corners.

So when she's exposed as a borderline millennial airhead posting memes on Facebook it's gonna make people chuckle.

Tom perez said she was the future of the Democratic Party.

Again, I don't get my news from the TV, but it wouldn't surprise me that corporate news sources that have to fill 24 hours of programming every day would get overly excited about the flavor of the moment. (Maybe there should be trigger warnings for that.) But ACO is 29 years old, and I think her last job was tending bar. No serious person has ever regarded her as the new face of the Democratic Party. As everyone knows, that's Nancy Pelosi.

I’m not claiming such. I’m responding to your rhetorical question.

She draws a lot of attention due to her popularity and messiah status with many on the Left. That may not have been her attention but she’s got it now and it’s in her best interests to learn basic economics. Like how unemployment is measured.

Steve King can go to hell.

To be fair to Rock, you did say in your original reply that "it seems unfair and overly partisan to rant and rave about how obviously unfit our current president is, without doing the same for her." Perhaps you inadvertently stepped a tad too far there.

She hasn't even started yet. Hopefully she'll display the ability to learn what she needs to know. It would be nice if her detractors would at least give her the opportunity.

Steve King can go to hell.
I'm sure he will.

I'd like to better understand what the standard is here, so I can tell (or at least I could tell if I cared to) how ACO compares to her colleagues in general knowledge and intelligence. For a sense of where I think that bar is located, here is Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) on the floor of the Senate in February 2015:

At the time, Inhofe was not a 29-year-old recent former bartender who hadn't yet taken office. Instead, he was Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee -- a guy whose say so said so. And he thought he was owning the libs on global warming because it was still possible to make a snowball in winter.

We can all agree that other people should elect more capable representatives, but I'm raising an eyebrow at this ACO thing.

Pedantic interruption: It should be AOC, not ACO. You had it right the first time, but then slipped up.

To be fair to me it was in answering his rhetorical question about why we should criticize someone that hasn’t started yet. It wasn’t out of nowhere. It’s unfair to criticize our clown president for being a clown but not criticize a clown Rep for being a clown (or at least having a clown’s understanding of policy and economics).
