Back before the Wake game, I put up IU's history in 4th games on their schedule and showed how the program had a long streak of losing game 4 (click here to revisit). Of course IU beat Wake, broke the streak, and I think my thread was a major reason for that happening. :D

This time around, it's the bye week trend that's haunting the Hoosiers. The history isn't as ugly as the 'Game 4' streak, but IU still doesn't have a great history coming off bye week. The Hoosiers have played 13 games after a bye week so far this century. The results:

2001 - W v Northwestern, 56-21 (11/3/01, 1-5 going into the game)
2002 - W v Wisconsin, 32-29 (10/12/02, 2-3 going into the game)
2003 - L v Ohio State, 35-6 (10/25/03, 1-6 going into the game)
2004 - L @ Ohio State, 30-7 (10/23/04, 2-4 going into the game)
2005 - L @ Wisconsin, 41-24 (10/1/05 - 3-1 going into the game)
2008 - L v Ball State, 42-20 (9/20/08, 2-0 going into the game)
2010 - W @ Western Kentucky, 38-21 (9/18/10, 1-0 going into the game)
2011 - L @ Michigan State, 55-3 (11/19/11, 1-9 going into the game)
2012 - L @ Northwestern, 44-29 (9/29/12, 2-1 going into the game)
2013 - W v Penn State, 44-24 (10/5/13, 2-2 going into game)
L v Minnesota, 42-39 (11/2/13, 3-4 going into game)
2014 - L @ Bowling Green, 45-42 (9/13/14, 1-0 going into game)
L v Michigan State, 56-17 (10/18/14, 3-3 going into game)

In summary, in the 2000's IU is:
  • 4-9 in games after a bye week
  • 3-4 at home in games after a bye week
  • 1-5 on the road in games after a bye week
  • 3-7 in conference games after a bye week
  • 1-5 under Wilson in games after a bye week
But ... IU IS 0-0 IN GAMES PLAYED AFTER A BYE WEEK THAT FALL AS THE NINTH GAME ON THE SCHEDULE!!!

Beat the trend. Beat Iowa.
