Mich on 4th down last gasp to keep the drive alive and score.

receiver falls and ..the UM players celebrate what they think is a first down.

Intellectually you are pretty sure that he was short of the first down but he sort of bounces, reaches and second effort crosses.

My reaction as a forty plus year IU FB fan:

"God dammit

You know they are going to give them that

You just know it!!

God dammit"

If you you reacted this way, you are truly a seasoned IU fan

You are my people.

I think it also counts if it crossed your mind at all. Me, immediately: "HE'S SO CLEARLY SHORT THEY CAN'T SCREW US!"

But then I did a double-check, it was nerve wracking, (! :) ) and was pleased to see the official was hustling to mark it correctly. LOL

In the Mallory days... especially at Michigan... And, the (more recent) old Indiana, that dude would've slipped the tackle with our two guys there, just enough for another foot and a half...

Great job defense, all game!

It was most certainly the puckered sphincter moment you described. That said like that, they didn’t video review it or bring out the chains, as I fuzzily recall. I would have been even more nervous if we hadn’t made that last field goal to go up five. Their kicker kicks the long ball, as we saw.

I was actually waiting for that classic Michigan play where they pitch the ball forward out of bounds to stop the clock.
I was at the game and can still see that ball floating in slow motion across the far sideline. It’s been my only time to witness a game in “The Big House”. That deliberate play of deception remains to this day as one of the greatest tragedies in a long line of tragedies described in the annals of IU Football History.

Yes, that and the time an IU receiver apparently levitated one inch above the Iowa's endzone and magically floated laterally 12 feet until he finally...finally touched out of bounds.

In my best Soup Nazi voice:

No TD for You!

Outside of Keyshaun's punt return, it was the play of the game!! Yes, I was a bit nervous about what they would decide given what I felt was obvious Michigan protection throughout the game.

Even from my vantage point in the SEZ, I could tell he was short. But that didn’t keep me from having a mini heart attack until I saw the zebras actually motion first down Hoosiers. We’ve all seen things called against us when playing that team. I feel like many of the worst calls in our history were called on us when playing them.

The one time I felt the familiar IU feeling was when Johnson hit the guy hard. My gut said “that’s gonna be targeting” before they even started reviewing it. While the call was probably right it felt like the beginning of something bad.

Oh and the many holding instances that weren’t called lol. Felt just like old times.

My seats are about at the south 5 yard line, pretty low, so I couldn't tell how close he was. I just went by the players' reactions on both teams and it was pretty evident by that, to me.

Watching where the red put the ball down I was reasonably confident. Having said that, with the ball that that obviously skipped, the receiver rushing back to the line and imploring his team to rush and yet .... Not even a review.

I gave you a “like” for your Soup Nazi voice closure. I’m not sure what this or even that means, but my SNOT Nazi voice of “No TD for you!” was pretty funny, in a mostly ridiculous sort of way heard only by me, as it always should and will be going forward, marching along the Cignetti Way.

Relentlessly Never Satisfied,
I remain.

This is absolutely the same reaction I had! If not for instant replay, because the UM player moved the ball across the first down marker after he touched the turf short of the first down, back in the day, IU would have been screwed because UM most certainly would've been awarded a first down.

Undefeated team at home with a no BS coach vs. a middling 5-4 visiting team, the spots will tend to favor one side. We've been on the wrong side of that for forever, so it's nice to get a taste of the other side.

It was a good spot... the guy must have been sprayed down with Teflon in the locker room because he slid another 2&1/2 feet after he was down and then he wriggled another 6-8" on his own and stretched the ball out even further (after he was clearly down)... It was a decent subversive effort on his part... Michigan would probably get away with that at Home...
