Do we remember the old saw about the weather, everyone complains about the weather but no one does anything about it? I wonder if oil prices are similar. I did some traveling this past weekend. If anyone is following those old rules about how to improve gas mileage (drive the speed limit, don't do jackrabbit starts and stops) I sure didn't notice it.
Driving habits can have a major influence on an individual's fuel economy. According to EPA estimates, driving aggressively (for example, rapid stops and starts or weaving in and out of traffic) can reduce gas mileage by 33% at highway speeds and 5% on city roads.
Imagine that, we have the ability to somewhat determine how much we spend on fuel. And if millions of Americans did that, the price of fuel would also drop as less would be used. But driving 70 instead of 85 is too big of a sacrifice to make.
