The Hoosiers got things started with three-straight singles from Butler, sophomore Matt Lloyd and Sowers. Sowers drove in Butler with his base knock to tie the game up at one. Following an RBI groundout from senior Craig Dedelow, Miller doubled down the right field line to make it a 3-1 game. Gorski then hit a two-run triple, Houston had a safety squeeze RBI and Butler double down the left field line to plate a seventh run.

The Buckeyes came back with three more runs in the bottom half of the third. OSU's Brady Cherry hit a two-run double and Conner Pohl delivered an RBI single to cut IU's lead to 7-4.
