Ohio State Game 1 (links): OSU, 7-4 win

I know it's just 1 game and it's not over with yet but if the hoosiers fail to make the ncaa tournament they have no one to blame but theirselves

Don't you think it's a tad silly to start talking about that over the possibility of a one game losing streak?

Hoosiers Drop Opener to Ohio State, 7-4

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A five-run sixth inning for the home team was the difference as Indiana baseball (30-20-2) fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes, 7-4, in the first game of a three-game set on Thursday evening.

Senior Craig Dedelow provided both of Indiana's runs on two solo home runs. It marked Dedelow's second multi-home run game of the season, the other one coming on April 30 against Maryland. Sophomore Logan Sowers provided three hits for the Hoosiers and a home run in the loss.

The Buckeyes manufactured a run in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. Tre' Gantt led off the bottom half of the frame with a single, stole second, and then advanced to third on a failed pickoff. Dominic Canzone finished it off with an RBI groundout to give OSU a 1-0 lead.

After the first, Stiever retired the 10 of the next 11 hitters he faced heading into the fifth inning, including nine straight. In the top of the fifth frame, Dedelow knocked out his 14th home run of the season to knot the contest up at one apiece.

The Buckeyes broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning. A leadoff triple by Ohio State's Jalen Washington set things up early, as Canzone drove him in on his second RBI groundout. From there, the Buckeyes strung together four consecutive hits and plated two runs to knock Stiever out of the game. Two more singles resulted in two more runs to make it a 6-1 game.

Indiana got a rebound run from Dedelow in the seventh with his second home run of the night and 15th of the year.

The Buckeyes manufactured one more in run in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-2.

Sowers knocked out his ninth home run of the season to trim the lead to four runs on a solo shot. Freshman Matt Gorski then singled and stole second, and eventually scored on an error by the third baseman to make it a 7-4 game in favor of OSU.

The Hoosiers and Ohio State will meet in the second game of this series on Friday night at 6:05 p.m.

Go Hoosiers!

We started out the same way with PSU, so hopefully we will do the same thing and take the final two games. I saw where Nebraska lost their first game to PSU tonight, so we weren't the only ones to lay a dud against that team. O$U is a somewhat better team than PSU, but we certainly can't continue giving up 13 hits to these guys like we did tonight.

A bad loss. Yes. The end of their season.... no. Trap game coming off the Louisville win. Take care of these next two (which they will) and nothing is hurt. Lose the series, and at worst we travel West for our regional.

Very bad loss - need to win next two! Can not afford to lose this series - it would destroy our RPI. Our SOS will be hurt no matter what the outcome of the games.

We probably still make tourney, but as a 4, not the previously projected 2-3

Aren't the 4 seeds for the 1 bid league autobids ? Im pretty sure at large teams gets 2 or 3 . Definitely could cost us location though .

So much for the best case scenario for us. With this loss, we can't pass Maryland, and we dropped another game away from Iowa. It's really looking like we are going to remain a #6 seed in the Big Ten tourney. I know our RPI is higher than the other teams, but there is no way they totally overlook that 5 teams beat us in the conference race.

You're right. If we make the field, it should be no worse than a 3-seed since the 4 seeds almost always go to the one bid leagues.
