IU got the benefit for a change. IU's first TD, the throw to Hale in the back of the end zone was bobbled and only controlled after he stepped on the end line. Fryfogle fumbled about 2 minutes before the half (unless there was a quick whistle by the ref). Anyone else pick up on these plays?

I picked up that FIU fumbled that first touchdown they got before the ball crossed the plane and IU recovered it.

The first pi call against iu was on a ball that was totally uncatchabele and was on 3rd down on fiu's first scoring drive. It went both ways but a typical big 10 lousy officiating crew.

Yes that was a close one, but I could not tell from the angles. You catch the two I thought I saw? I also taped the game and watched some of it in slow motion.

I saw the bobble in the end zone by Hale. Probably got a break there but Hale had his back to the ref running out of the back and the fans in the end zone nor the DB protested it.
The Fryfogel deal, I disagree with you. He was on his back when the ball kind of came loose. Ground cannot cause a fumble.

Well managed game by our coaching staff with exception of one glaring thing I’d like the press to question:

Before halftime we are driving. We allow 5 seconds to run off the clock before calling our final timeout. With 10 seconds remaining, we got cute by trying a pass into the end zone that allowed all remaining time to expire. We should have tried a quick out to the sideline to gain 5-6 more yards and then attempt a field goal. Didn’t like that at all.

I didn't DVR the game so I can't be sure, but I thought there were only six seconds left at the time of that final play. If so, trying to gain a few additional yards to set up the kick might have burnt the clock anyway. I agree, though, that our clock and game management in that final series could have been better. Fortunately we didn't need those three points, but we might in the future.

At :10, Ramsey rolled right and threw incomplete, taking the clock to 0:06. The throw into the end zone occurred on the following play and resulted in an incompletion as the clock expires. The clock was poorly managed down the stretch.

There were many missed holds...I mean Dline just tackled or chop blocked with no whistle. They were on both sides but FIU clearly got the home edge there.

They did try a quick sideline pass but it was covered and thrown away. Not enough time left after that to try another play and kick maybe so the went to the endzone. As far as the time running off that was before the 4th down play and might have been to limit time if they didn't make it.

I stand corrected. I need to go back and look how far that field goal would have been at 6 secs left.

I believe it was 48, but into a stiff wind. They may having been thinking about kicking it but decided against it during the time out. It was a real tweener thing I believe. If they would have saved some time before the 4th down play they may have had another shot at it. Of course no guarantee they would make the first down.

First time I've ever read that Thread Title on here.

Had to happen some day I suppose. :D

Would love to read that header again after we play Michigan at their place...;)

I, for one, am very happy that our game against Virginia will NOT be handled by a B1G officiating crew -- especially the one that did our game at Virginia last year. I don't think in most cases it is a conscious thing but B1G officials are simply predisposed to rule against IU -- even in out-of-conference games. Really hurts when a majority of the calls that could go either way, and thus are difficult to overturn. are initially made against you.

Tokyo Steve, will it be an all ACC crew then? I sure hope not. The NC St game of 2000 was one of the most blatant screw jobs ever down the stretch.

Huh?

I don't know if it was visible on TV, but Westbrook was held in the endzone on the last play of the half, and CTA considered sprinting after that official going into the half.
I saw that too. It was identical to the 2015 OSU game. Just completely held the WR to the ground.

some people have brought up some other points about the calls by the refs which are correct. The no holding calls on IU's D-line is true. Robinson's jersey was so stretched from holding, it almost did not fit by the end of the game. The refs also were off on the PI calls.

I could only listen to the game so I can't comment on the officiating, but thanks for ruining my morning with the memory of that abominable call vs O$U. Why not just trot out the incomplete pass call in the end zone at Iowa where to be correct the receiver would have needed to levitate an inch above the turf for six feet.
