Official Deron, Green and Smith appreciation thread!!

Outside of Green’s pass to Deron’s shin and his idiotic turnover in OT, he played very well and under control. Might need to bench him before he gets overconfident. Deron looked way less painful and has gained a little mobility which is great to see. He fought hard! Mad respect to that kid. Smith lost his player many times and we only paid 2-3 times. But overall he made some good plays and totally saved our bacon on that block. He needs to stop shooting 3’s.

But I agree. Those guys played well and if they can clean it up just a bit they could all be very good players the rest of the year.

Old man gets it done. Deron reminds me of that old guy at the Y that is slower than anyone on the court and can't jump a lick, but somehow manages to score inside.
Looks like he is walking and running on one leg.

All 3 played great and they played with a lot of energy. If Davis can get through this year without getting injured this year it should help. If he can have a very good off season and gets in better shape then next year he will be the key player next year.

I wish Smith would shoot the ball rather than just heaving it towards the goal. He looks like a blind man the way he shoots. If he would assume a "Jarrad Odle" roll for this team, rebound, play tenacious defense, and learn how to hit layups, he could do this night in and night out.

His sophomore year Odle averaged a couple points and a couple rebounds per game. But he improved each year and was a good role player. I think Smith has a greater upside than Odle and at this point we don't wish him to be merely a role player.

I remember Odle getting his chance when George Leach got hurt. I think it was a road game against NW. I seem to remember Jared scoring in double digits, maybe even a double/double.

Yes. Might have been BT opener. Leach was hurt on the opening tip at NU. Game was stopped at 19.57 to help GL off. In came Odle and the rest is history. Odle was great in his role.

don't forget another green airball layup. except this time he grabbed his own rebound out of the air. tha used to be a travel back in the day

He also needs to quit shooting a fade away jump shot, behind the 3 point line, just go straight up, use his lift to pick up fouls when he shoots, and he would get more arc on his shot and give himself a chance to get one down here and there especially since they will keep playing off him.

De'Ron Davis stepped up when he had to - injury or not. That's old school heart and performance. He was a huge reason why you guys won. He would be a valuable addition to any team. Total respect.

coachv jr, yes I am citing the Leach injury from memory. I was at the game. 50 feet from Leach when it happened.Tough to forget someone being injured on the opening tip (that in my then 30 years, now almost 50 years of watching) can't ever recall happening.

"I feel like this league doesn't respect us"
"We've got to get respect for our coaching staff"
DeRon Davis quotes from Indystar article.

No kidding. Losing 7 straight and getting the carp beat out of you twice at home will do that.

But I am glad to hear he is more healthy and motivated.

Very interesting that Green and Davis both played >5min in only one other game all season?

Smith is used to leaning back to create separation on shots in the paint, but it is leaving his 3pt shot short.

yup, the young man was dragging defenders around like he was previously dragging that foot around. good to see him looking a littler healthier. much like with Juwan, i get good feelz every time i see De'Ron get the ball down low.
