OK, I'm waiting for the washer repair man to finish his work and I'm reflecting on 2014 and what 2015 MAY bring.
With the infusion of Herron and Gardner, this is potentially the finest IU offensive line certainly of my lifetime. There are a couple of poster here who take my comments out of context. So I'll be specific. Statistically, IU's running game was very successful last season. It's true that Tevin racked up incredible numbers. But I believe that numbers alone do not tell the tale. If you are behind in a game by a significant spread and the other team is playing pass defense and time/score/game situation and you keep running the ball, you are going to gain yards. This is particularly evidenced after Sudfeld went down and in games like Rutgers. But as good as the line was by IU standards and solidly in the middle of the pack in the conference, I don't think it can compare to the ELITE lines occasionally fielded by the better OSU, Nebraska, Michigan, MSU, PSU and Iowa teams..
Having said that, this next IU line can be one of the best in the conference in 2015. CAN BE if void of injury and bad circumstance. Certainly as deep in talent and depth as IU has ever produced.
Now, having said that, what changes does that potentially bring to IU next season?
Some of this has been voiced by me before last yr.
This offense at it's most versatile form uses a QB who can run. Much like Oregon with Mariotta. Or it can be run with a more traditional qb like Sam Bradford at Ok. But like MSU and OSU, it occasionally utilizes a second back in the backfield. IU has occasionally used a TE or H back with Fuchs or Bolser. But I'm wondering if on occasion they will use more of a fullback type who can block and still slip out into the flat for a quick pass. Potentially being Rodriquez or Wilson.
Or we can chalk it all up to my desire to talk football and wait till spring and see what happens.
