I don't believe this accounts for the BTN revenue either, right?

FOX is the majority owner of the BTN now, I believe. I would think this is an all encompassing deal...wonder if BTN will go away with this?

Well congrats to the Big Ten on a huge deal that will pay each school way more money.

It will also cost fans an extra $5 a month to watch everything with Peacock now in the fold on top of what is paid now (cable plus BTN+ for those who subscribe to that as well and will still be needed for some things)

They will broadcast the out of area games on peacock and replays. I’d say this is signaling the end of BTN network maybe. People pay for espn plus etc….this is a nothing.

Its a something. In past you’re cable subscription got you every football and men’s basketball game (except maybe one lousy pre conference basketball game on BTN+).

Now every fan will need to buy Peacock for $5 a month on top of their cable to watch a portion of these games. Brilliant business move by NBC to legitimize Peacock and fans will pay a bit more.

Can't imagine this will end BTN. There's way too much money to be made with that channel being on the basic tier on all of those systems and their geographies.

Approx how much $$ had each Big Ten University been receiving on the current deal? Just curious what the bump is gonna be.

The BTN isn't going away. They get a ton of games in this too. There are too many things to cover on the three big networks alone.

You are right. I’m going off a few speculative posts without thinking about it.

Anyone else have that football game he has up on his shelf? I swear I had one back in the day. Just a little orange blip you moved around and through blue dot defenders. Loved it...
That was the Mattel game. Coleco was the other one that people had. Many a bus ride to an away game was made shorter by a few of those.

So by the SEC making the wrong decision, CBS made a bad choice? That is one woof of a take.

He named all of those games that were played on CBS for their game of the week. A local station. What about the rest of the games going on that week as its not just about one game. While the B1G was on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, BTN.....with a Fox Noon game and sometimes their ESPN game would be on ABC. Now all of our top 3 games will be on local access stations so guess whose viewership numbers are about to go up?

Out of curiosity, I wonder what network has more viewers, BTN or SEC?

With cord cutters this will be significant I think. I just laughed. I was surprised that the B1G actually lead viewership. I saw a graphic that showed schools relying on football revenue. The pac 12 and B1G were around 50% and the SEC was 100%. The B1G has set themselves up with multiple revenue streams. Pretty slick. The other thing of note is this is a slam dunk for Olympic sports and basketball.

Why? So as to install solid gold toilet seats in practice facilities and/or put a dome over the Stadium? The AD is way beyond flush and its prosperity/fiscal health ridiculously well-assured. No Teams without the University itself, so in that respect any investment in IU is an investment in the AD as well.

This is comedy gold.
That much copium indicates significant butt hurt. Particularly like the part where he explains that it's not the SEC's $300 M/yr. vs the BIG's $1 B+, it's only $450M/yr vs. $1B+.

The AD lost millions and millions of dollars during Covid, and while we’ve made a lot of nice improvements to facilities, there are always improvements to be made, especially with football and basketball. You better spend, or get left behind. This will help.

Looks like it does. 1.25 billion divided int 16 teams. Should be around 80 million. Rumor is it will be worth more because the B1G isn’t done expanding.
Can't read the article, but what I've read is that: the $7-8B figure does not include BT revenue of about $160M per year; early on the national TV revenue is about $60M, but rises when UCLA & USC join and toward the end will be about $80B; that the BT will get a 1/17 cut for administrative expenses. Also does not include bowl/CFP $ and other misc.....

If there is non-ND expansion it won't increase the payout per school, but may not hurt it(?). I wonder if that extra $2-2.5B to $10B only happens with ND?

Everyone lost during Covid. Not suggesting the AD gets left out, but it's not as if they're in any way desperate, wanting, or in dire need. That being said, if IU could elevate the fortunes (revenue) of its FB Program to say Top 20 that would add some $40 M annually and represent a sound investment. Open to hearing the specifics of how one would spend vast sums of money to bring that about...

Interesting that Indiana is #44 and "the cradle of QBs" is 10 spots back. LOL

Loved it, too. Something I will swear to, but have no confirmation. is that the electronic sound from that device is on the Logical Song by Supertramp around the 3:20 mark right before the count 1, 2, 3, 5.

Yep. Eventually 80-100 mill by 2026.
