what it means to be good enough to play for IU. Maybe the basic problem, but I think winning is what wakes them and if Arch is any good, he finds that.

Maybe that's because of the lengths coaches must go to to try to get a highly touted kid to commit. It's absurd how much control the kids have over the process.

I've always felt the NBA to be a real distraction to college players putting all they have into winning games. Guys like, Deyonta Davis, Ricky Davis, Kris Humphries, Noah Vonleh.... all out of the Big Ten. Preoccupied with just getting to the NBA as soon as possible and not really identifying with their team losses.
"That's not on me, I'm NBA good" That sort of mentality. I think it sucks and I think there is a real fine line between talent/production and actually leading a team as a team player and winner.

I look at the recruiting situation and it just looks like until TJD is back for a sophomore season, we won't really have progress from a team of Archie-recruited players.

Understand what you are saying but don't see it in this team. Only player like that is Langford and I think he is working he hardest. We just don't have enough good basketball players, yet.

The “problem” with today’s college game is that good players can be found on most halfway decent teams. The elite talents are the ones schools fight over. The elite schools, you know who they are and IU is not included, are almost guaranteed more than their fair share of elite talent every recruiting season. All the other schools fight over the “”dregs” of this high-end talent and those coaches who manage to get this talent have a more difficult time maintaining continuity in recruiting because of the disruptive effect of early NBA defections. IU is in this category. One “one hit wonder” can win some games otherwise not possible, but it takes more of a supporting cast to win trophies. I’m afraid Romeo’s elite talent is going for naught other than how this team would be doing if he had gone to Louisville. As a relatively few here predicted pre-season, IU is performing like a middle of the pack BT team. We’ll always have the injury excuse, if that is any consolation. We would have been better if Hunter, Davis, Race and McRoberts hadn’t gotten hurt. I’m assuming Phinisee finds his mojo again, soon. One final thought (of too many)...there is such a fine line for success once you get past that upper echelon of schools. IU used to be one of those schools, but it has now been a number of years otherwise. Because we were once there and now no longer are, the fan base has a more difficult time dealing with it...the feeling of entitlement thing... the “we deserve to be better” type of frustration. Bob spoiled us. Thank you, Bob-it was a good ride and yes, I miss do miss you now!
