Jr. Mike Fiacable...who came in as our #3 QB and only handed off but did a nice composed job while in. Imo we need to see a bunch more of him getting reps...what do you think?

Most likely what you say is true. I would love to see what Taylor can do behind center though his height may be an issue. Still, Fiacable did a nice job and exuded a nice calm presence back there. Just like to see him get some props...

It is very good to see him get live action! There's a chance he'll see some live action in two weeks if we take care of Rutgers like we should.

I'm hoping Penix gets some seasoning against Rutgers, too. That kid has a big time cannon.

It's nice to have a veteran waiting in the wings if disaster strikes. Remember a few years ago when we had to play a true freshman (who originally was going to redshirt) for most of the season. Fiacable played a little last year too so at least he won't blow up if called upon. Hopefully that won't happen but you never know.

I think you were drinking heavily when you posted this.;)

"If" you are saying we need to see him get a lot more reps because we are routinely up 4 scores late in the 4th quarter I'm right there with you, if you meant we "need" to get him more reps..., well..., that must be really good stuff...:D

Single Malt?;)

By the way, it was nice to see him be rewarded for years of hard work behind the scenes.

The only way we would see him play is if we have injuries to our top 2 QBs or the staff somehow decides to redshirt Penix. I hope neither happens.

I hope we have an opportunity for us to get so far ahead that we can play a walk-on QB. But, if we are just going to run the ball to kill the clock, we can do it just as well with the 2 QBs that are used to handling the ball. They aren't likely to be injured handing the ball off.

Lets hope that moving forward this season we have a number of games in hand where CTA can play our #3 QB. That means a bunch of wins... A number of players got there first action of the season.

Saturday was a perfect example of why the new redshirt rule is a good thing. Not only did we get to play some upperclassmen and walk-ons who rarely get the opportunity, it also gives us a chance to look at some kids we are pretty sure we want to redshirt.

You can get a look at who might and might not be ready should you be in a situation later that requires you to go deeper down the depth chart than you had planned. You also can rest both starters and second-string guys to prevent injuries late in a one-sided game. Especially a game in those kind of conditions where fatigue can have a lingering impact as the season wears on.

Most importantly, you throw a bone to redshirt prospects who still have to endure the daily grind of practice. It gives them a reason to stay engaged and in game shape. Getting the chance to play, even if only a couple of series or on special teams, can be a huge motivator for a kid who knows he's definitely or likely a redshirt.

Nice to see the NCAA actually think about what's good for the athlete for a change.

I don't see how that rule change could be more dramatic than at IU...I believe it is transforming our chances at winning...
