No flu vaccine this year

Is this even a thing anymore?
It's not much of a thing for most of the world, including places with more aged populations than the USA, but somehow or another it's still a thing here

Finally, you understand.

They have a COVID/Flu combo. Yes, it's still a thing. The fear over the COVID shot is mostly nonsense. I tracked all things COVID in my last job (Chief Operations Officer) and I know two people who died from COVID out of about 1,000 people. I know of a few other unvaccinated people who died from COVID (relatives of employees, none in my extended family or friends that I'm aware of). We had two people resign rather than get the vaccination. Everyone else was vaccinated. About a thousand people and no problems from the vaccination other than the usual next day soreness and tiredness which comes with most vaccinations. That's a large sample size, and it doesn't include all the other people I know who were vaccinated and aren't reporting any problems whatsoever. Other than my x-ray vision and ability to levitate which are awesome, I've had no issues either.

In summary, I believe the medical research that says the vaccine is a far better option than not getting vaccinated for those at-risk or live with those at-risk (like my wife during her chemo). Those who are anti-vax and claim to have done their own "research" didn't. They don't even know how to do actual research. ;) However, I was also a supporter of the Great Barrington Declaration, and we should have concentrated on protecting the at-risk population (elderly and immunocompromised) and let the rest of the healthy population go about their lives. Vaccination optional. No shutdowns necessary.

Trump expedited the vaccine, was vaccinated, and urged everyone to be vaccinated too. He seems to have suffered no problems either.

Maybe the U.S. is the only country still wasting time tracking this nonsense at this point? Who do you know that has died FROM Covid in the past two years?

Yes, because just like the flu, it mutates into different strands.

Correct and those surviving seem to have weakened materially and will continue to do so.

Not sure you should use Trump as an example.

Side effects may include cognitive decline, lack of empathy, delusions of grandeur, orange skin discoloration...

These viruses constantly mutate. They've mutated to a less lethal variant. Viruses want to "live" too and killing hosts doesn't help that. The Spanish Flu eventually mutated into a non-lethal virus. Unlike for COVID, they never had a vaccination.

i think over time they become less deadly but more contagious. The less deadly part is why there's no/little pressure anymore to get the vaccine.

It just boggles the mind that people chose a political stand over their own health and the health of loved ones.

Here's one reality:

For "most" people under 65 with no co-morbidities COVID19 is simply a nasty extreme cold that can be overcome in 10-17 days...

For the rest of us over 65 with at least one co-morbidity it's still potentially deadly without early treatment...

If you have a trifecta of Type A Blood, Type 2 diabetes and some degree of gum disease evidently you're screwed without immediate treatment...

If you're like me and are immuno-compromised due to cancer treatments or some other malady you're screwed (probably with or without treatment)...

That might be great news to the "Let the old f---kers die off so we can blow their Social Security Benefits on illegal aliens crowd... 😉..., but for us old guys who've decided to attempt to stick around awhile longer the threat of COVID19 still presents a Real problem...

I'm one of the pathetic jokers who still has to wear an N95 mask out in public and anyone who gives me any shit about it would be making a huge mistake if they think they just see some old guy in front of them...😎 Rather suddenly they'll find their own health at risk...😉

So..., the good news is that if you're under 65 and relatively healthy you have little to worry about (and probably will build your own version of immunity after a couple of bouts of it)... The bad news is that just because it's no big threat to you, you can still whack Grandma with it if you have it and decide you just can't bear to have her miss that Birthday party...
