So, was there supposed to be some announcement today by IU or did Dolson feel compelled to get that information out to take the temperature down?

Someone tweeted who claims to have knowledge of an unexpected team meeting called by stevens.

What the hell? This is insanity. Why announce there is not going to be an announcement when there did not ever appear to be an announcement scheduled? I admittedly have got swept into the Steven's sweepstakes, but it just seems crazy. For one, nothing this good happens to IU fans. At least not for the last 20 years. It's been quite the opposite. Two, it started as a pipe dream for me and still is, but the desperation and desire of having IUBB be back like it once was is so great, it causes emotions to take over rational thinking. I don't know, but Stevens to IU just seems to good to be true. And if so, I wish he was never in the discussion!

Chronichoosier just tweeted about a Sportsbook pulling Stevens to Indiana.
those same sports books did the same thing with Trump going from underdog to favorite around 10:30 eastern. Those sports books mean nothing to me other than they are professionals at duping folks into making bets they more likely than not said gambler will lose.

They pulled it though...I’m guessing they don’t want to take a bloodbath at this point with those who threw money when the odds were stupid high.

They probably felt they needed to do this because a couple of yahoos tweeted that IU would be announcing their grand slam hire (er, Stevens) today, and it was likely generating a bunch or phone calls, emails, etc. So they had to respond and set the record straight.

I bet Boston will announce a hefty pay raise for BS.
Could be, but it seems unlikely. His seat is getting hot with the fan base. They are 20-20. Not saying Ainge wouldn’t like to keep him. But 8 yrs and no title with their talent doesn’t go over well in Boston.

I get it. I am just perplexed by the announcement on not announcing anything. We announced that we are not announcing anything. That's big news! Doesn't make sense.

Says the guy that guaranteed a win against Michigan, go join your buddy Aloha

Celtics have a game tonight...a meeting makes sense.

I am guessing IU made an announcement to at least slow to pace of people reaching out for a comment. Basically IU is saying “if you call or email us, we will have nothing to tell you at this time” or in other words it’s a preemptive “no comment, and please stop calling us for at least the next 48 hours”

and there is also no correlation to what the say publicly and IUs anticipated timeline

That would be pretty surprising, IMO
This is following the exact script of Brohm to Louisville. To a "T". Brohm had a team meeting too.
Er, so?

I have no idea if Stevens is coming to IU or not. I’m content to just wait the process out.

But to imply that he’s not because he held a team meeting, and so did Jeff Brohm, is just poor logic. I’m sure plenty of coaches have done that before they jumped ship, and others have done it before they didn’t. It’s neither here nor there.

one thing that nags at me is the fact that BS signed an extension to coach the Celtics back in August. Sure would like to know the terms of that deal.

I'm sure there were a few provisions relating to winning a lot of games, right?

I am diligently dusting off my checkbook today in case the coaching situation goes down the way we all hope it does. I will be getting back on the Varsity Club ladder if it does even though I live too far away to take advantage of tickets (other than selling them).

I never believed an announcement would come during the tournament weekend. IU will want that announcement to get maximum media play (to help recruiting) and it might get somewhat buried among the stories about the tournament. So if there was to be announcement (on anyone) it won't be while NCAA games are being played. Also, the non-announcement points to neither Matta or Beilein getting the job as either of them could be announced now. Not to say it still couldn't be one of them, but less likely. That makes the choice someone who is encumbered by NCAA tournament games and/or needing to get out of an existing contract.

So this is why I think Stevens may be in play, the question is does Brad see that he will still be the Celtic's coach in five or six years? Highly doubtful, but he will be IU's coach in five or six years. If the money is similar, wouldn't any logical person take the opportunity at the longer duration probability? I think Brad's time in Boston is short and I think Brad thinks his time in Boston is short. From that one perspective, the IU job has to be of interest now when perhaps it wasn't in the past. Plus, the players have probably tuned him out (like IU's players tuned out Archie) and that is the kiss of death in the NBA.

Wasn't implying he's not, seems like the favorite for the job, but this board is IDENTICAL, to the Louisville board during that process. Dates. Dates changed. Team meeting rumors. Obscure internet experts saying things going on. Talks of meetings and agent meeting. The only difference was higher end internet "insiders" said Brohm to Louisville was a done deal (Dakich, Field Yates, etc)..... I was merely pointing out how amazing the similarities are. I don't have any clue what is going to happen.

He's been in the NBA Conference Finals (Final Four) for 3 of the last 4 years. He may go to IU, but it won't be because he is worried about job security (he would land another NBA job the following year without a doubt). It will come down to whether he wants to coach IU or be an NBA coach.

And there are 20 more boards just like this one.

Absolute hysteria.

Personally, I'm waiting on reports from the guy who tracks the flight plans of private aircraft and the other guy who hangs out at a Bloomington car wash before reaching a conclusion.

Otherwise, well, I could get over-optimistic until something like this is announced instead of what I want:

In other words, nothing is guaranteed until the ink is on the paper. I think most people realize this.

Brohm and Louisville did have interactions and, ultimately, he chose to stay put. Similar thing happened with Painter and Mizzou. Whether it was MP's original motivation or not, he used Mizzou's interest to win a raise and some other incentives from Purdue. It happens.

Just because you, as a Purdue fan, witnessed Louisville's football board hyperventilating about Brohm doesn't really mean anything. I'd venture to guess that most sports message boards are at least somewhat like this when they have a coaching vacancy and rumors start swirling.

I'd say they'd announce it asap if it was truly finalized.................no reason to screw around with it.

It would be huge news splashed all over the various broadcasts of the tournament. Announcing Stevens would give IU maximum publicity.
