Kudos to the Hoosiers on a legendary season…
This ancient Boilermaker hasn’t been to Bloomington since the 1981 Bucket game, and I’m meeting an old friend there this coming weekend whose daughter is an IU sophomore—
Which of these saloons (or is there somewhere else) is the quintessential IU watering hole?

Given the ridiculous evening game time, and the likelihood that my guys will be drawn and quartered, I will need serious thawing out, and emotional recovery.

Thanks in advance—Nothing beats a good college saloon😎🍺

Purdue fan … coming from out of town … shouldn’t we suggest he try Shalooby’s??
Mentally preparing myself for a heathy dose of trash talk- I suppose Purdue has it coming after our nice little string of Bucket wins lately…

I’ll likely be stuck clinging to memories of better days with the likes of Mark Herrmann, Rod Woodson, and Mike Alstott.

Cheers!

Since you didn't mention Bob Griese, you're not as ancient as most of us Hoosier fans on here!

My disdain for IU was hatched in 1980, when as a freshman screaming just beyond Ross-Ade’s north end zone , I was exhilarated to see Mike Marks lay out to knock away a sure two-point conversion pass from Tim Clifford…..

I believe that game was the largest- ever crowd at R-A, and for at least a decade (before the Colts came to Indy, and before the domers expanded their stadium) it was the largest crowd ever to witness a football game in the state of Indiana…

IU fought their azzes off that day against a superior foe; I’m clinging to the hope that the Fightin’ Walterses display some semblance of that on Saturday night.

Yogi's on 10th St. just south of the stadium is my recommendation: pretty convenient to grab a bite to or from the game. The original location is the best.

Oh boy….. you mean I should carve out MORE time to spend in a saloon??

A damn tough ask, but I guess I should comply😉
last time I heard a bar called a saloon was watching a black and white western, I guess my best advice for you would be avoiding a poker game with lucy. and be wary of bottles of whiskey on the bar someone generally ends up getting hit over the head with them.

Best Bucket Game I ever saw in person. Lonnie Johnson was nails.

That location of Yogi’s closed several years ago. They tore down the building. Yogi’s is now located on 7th and Walnut. Different owners. Not even close to what it used to be. I’d skip it.

I was at that game also. It was probably the best played game by both teams in a single bucket game I ever attended (was a bit too young for the ‘67 game). Totally packed. IU probably would have gone bowling had they won, putting them at 7-4 (not as many bowl games then).

Steve Corso caught the pass to make it 24-23. After the missed 2-pointer, IU then recovered the on side kick with a few seconds left and lined up for a 60 yarder that, I believe got tipped. My dad and I then exited out of the north end/student section.

I was there too...

Great play by Marks but it would have been just another play had Lonnie Johnson not been tripped up by the p u turf not once but twice with huge holes open in front of him (at least one would have gone for a TD)... Those classic PATurf divots did more to win the game for them than Marks did...

Almost wanted to throw up... 🙈🙉😖
