Yea. He’s started the tackling motion before the ball left, nothing he can do. Bad call.
They called it a high hit and he hit him in the chest. Just a bad call.

Exactly. Just like guys start a tackle and the ball carrier moves his head so they call targeting. Hoping refs back off this year.
Even worse in person. He hit him about a half second after he released the ball.

He made me eat my off-season comments that his tackles were downfield. Looked bigger, quicker, and more aggressive then what I expected. Hope it looks that way against UCLA and the B1G.

That guy is a stud. Super impressed with him. He was all over the place.
Total crap call. What was any defender to do there? Didn’t lead with helmet to chest. Didn’t go helmet to helmet. A fraction of a second earlier the qb still had the ball.
My problem is that the Quarterback is given that kind of protection when he is rolling out and out of the pocket. When does He stop becoming a Runner and change back to being a throwing QB? If You let up as a tackler to avoid a potential penalty, and the Qb puts on a burst and runs around You, then what? If You are going to call that You are placing the Defender in an almost impossible situation.Make the hit and risk the penalty, back off and risk the QB outrunning You and getting the Yardage anyway.
The hit to McCulley was closer to a targeting penalty than this was to a roughing the passer.

1st game for officials as well - just made a bad call,granted it was very bad and the 2 officials closer to the play to felt it was clean - happens- very impressed with Fisher overall

To me, he did not hit helmet to helm, lead with his helmet, nor land on the player in going to the ground. Anything else?
