Nice article in Courier-Journal re: pUKe's expensive trip to Bahamas

Thanks for posting that. Interesting info.

Calamari staying in a $1,550 PER NIGHT suite. Wow. He really is King Of The Commonwealth.

it's a real shame that Richie Farmer couldn't make the trip

Those digs are probably much better than his present digs.

Richie Farmer is busy making license plates

Richie Farmer's Kentucky state champion got destroyed by Marion and Jay Edwards and Lyndon Jones and Kentucky dropped plplaying the Indiana state champion.

If you are going to make fun of an entire population and imply they are uneducated, you should probably double check your own grammar prior to posting.

The IN state champion used to play the KY state champ? I don't recall

that. I went to the IN KY All Star game that year and all 5 Marion starters made the team, and at one point they put them on the floor together, but I don't remember the state champs from both states playing. I saw Rick Fox play in the series, although he wasn't allowed to play his senior season in high school here and also saw Sean Kemp, who was an absolute beast and man among boys, probably not unlike George McGinnis, but that was a little before my time.

I'd like to see pictures of the UK men's basketball...

living quarters. Maybe the CJ can do that next!-)

Re: I'd like to see pictures of the UK men's basketball...

Their new lodge has been posted many time even with video of Cal showing you around with their chef cooking them meals as ordered. It was awesome.

Sean Kemp was far behind McGinnis as a player

No comparison. McGinnis was a fully mature NBA star-level player as a senior in HS. Kemp was a rangy, mobile guy with some potential. Consider that McGinnis did 53 Pts and 28 RB against the Ky all-stars going head to head with 7-1 Payne and 6-8 Voskuhl throughout the game. Then in his one year of collegiate competition he scored 30.0 PPG and 14.7 Rb per game - and the next year was a star in the ABA. Kemp was a guy with some nice athleticism, but McGinnis would have eaten him alive.

Most disturbing is the booster angle

I'm not surprised that UK is effectively buying practice opponents. After all, pro boxers have to pay sparring partners.

What I find most concerning about the home of the $50 handshake under Adolph Rupp is this:

"UK offset some costs by providing flights, lodging and tickets for 57 UK boosters who donated $6,000 apiece, contributing a total of $347,047.30."

I don't think it's far-fetched to suspect those boosters had access to the players on the trip. And, UK boosters love to show their appreciation for the players with small gifts.

Why couldn't the boosters make their own arrangements? Why did the school solicit $6K apiece from them.

Not sure the NCAA will do anything about this, but it reeks of another way to push the envelope on rules.

Re: Most disturbing is the booster angle

Not sure what the NCAA would do about a school using it's own money for playing games or why they would want to since it costs everyone money to do it. UK is one of the few 100% self sufficient basketball programs in the country so it costs the state and students 0 dollars. They also give (as of a few years ago that I remember) 2 million dollars to UK's educational fund every year. I guess anything everyone else has spent wasn't publicised. UK is just interesting to the media.
