Nebraska/NW

Hull was the best player on the field and was responsible for much of that. NW OL was solid. QBs on both sides look serviceable.

Overall and as expected Nebtuckey had superior athletes but lesser FBIQ,

I was very surprised by the vulnerability of Nebraska's Defensive Line...

Had that one totally backwards... I figured their OL would be their weakness due to their losing a starting Guard during camp and that their DL would be their strength...

Frost reminds Me of a cocky kid Who knows He is really good at something. But somewhere in his personality, He has a flaw or a chip on his shoulder. It isn't enough for him just to coach a team to win. He has ton do it in a way that proves to everyone that He is the smartest guy in the Stadium. Hence the odd decisions.

Good call... I think you've nailed his personality...: Arrogant to a fault.

Some interesting quotes on Nebraska from OTE.

“Nebraska hit the portal hard for a QB that didn’t play anyone with a defense of note last year and a WR from New Mexico State and stuff like that, and added a fancy new OC that had produced a Heisman finalist QB and Biletnikoff Award winner (AT PITT!!!)“

“But what they failed to do was make any meaningful changes to a middling defense or upgrade the OL.“

“The Huskers run game continues to be pathetic, needing a 46 yard carry from Anthony Grant to fluff the stats and avoid having a 3 yard per pop average. Casey Thompson started off well and took advantage of Northwestern giving Cornhusker receivers more cushions than they have at Home Goods and leaving very overmatched LBs to cover Vokolek.”

“Once teams realize that Nebraska can’t run and can’t block for more than a 3 step drop (if they’re lucky), it’s open season on Thompson and we’ll continue to see what we’ve been seeing all along from the Frost era, because he’s continued to fail to address his biggest issue on offense.”

Delaney and Osborne had good OLs and DLs. Best center award is named after CornHusker, Dave Rimington.

The game analysts thought so, too. I couldn't tell if their DL was that bad or the NW OL was that good. Probably a little of both.

It probably is a good example of how overhauling the program via the portal is far from a sure thing. No one hit it harder than UNL and they looked pretty disjointed as a result.

The Nebraska Rivals forum is good reading right now. You can hardly keep up with the posts they’re coming in so heavy.

Also, the “Omaha World-Herald” published a comic book (print, baby!) about Scott Frost when he took the job. “The Return of Scott Frost.” Look it up.

Perhaps IU’s press during 2020 (best college coach infomercial @ Camp Randall) and clarity of opportunity worked to IUs favor. Playing opponents in CFBs top division (arguably) doesn’t hurt either.

Five straight losing seasons at UNL may be the biggest factor.

I enjoyed watching this game and rooting against Nebras-cry. My life was also enriched by learning that a cup snake is a thing.
On offense Nebraska looked pretty good at the skill positions. Adrian Martinez had a reputation for being Jeckyll and Hyde but I wonder if that's what they are getting again with Casey Thompson. As others have pointed out they got pushed around by Northwestern up front. Missed tackles didn't help. The latter is something they should be able to get cleaned up. The former could be a problem.
Impressed with the Northwestern QB Hilinski. If he plays that well all year they are going to be a factor in the Big Ten West. I like that Hull kid too. Plus Indiana doesn't play them so by all means wreak some havoc against the likes of Purdue and Wisconsin.
