Nebraska More Committed

Who was the bolder pick that IU should have made two years ago?
Yep, I argue that IU’s timing on these things hadn’t been great. Fact is there were no great candidates available 2 years ago. If Donovan had available and IU didn’t go after him, then I’d agree that the administration didn’t care.

Just slightly over Archie’s salary, but much more high-profile and exciting of a hire.
His hometown ties no doubt pulled him back to Nebraska.

Embarrassing that Nebraska bball shows more boldness in their desire to have winning bball program!

You’re definitely a “button pusher.” However, what if Nebraska’s hire backfires? Then what? I don’t know, but I don’t think Fred Hoiberg would be a glamorous hire at alll schools? So, your post is tilted to begin with cuz you’re using that hire to take a shot at IU BB, and you have no idea how that hire will work out? And, you’re emarrassed too, LOL!

Good grief. When Archie was hired, it was the number one hire in college basketball that year. Every list I saw had it as a great hire.
Did you object back then?

We shall see if Nebraska hire is better or not. I think once CAM gets several upperclass players on the team, they will be playing his system of ball better than just 2 years with a smatter os upperclass in those 2 years. Geez,if he doesn't have it going by year 4,then yes, maybe a change might be needed[maybe].

Yep. Timing-wise our luck hasn’t been great.

Not really...obviously I wanted Donovan or Stevens...but those didnt seem realistic. I didnt love it - but often commented to UK/UL friend that if Cal or Pitino suddenly left, who would be a hire to be excited about outside of those two...acknowledging Self, Roy, Izzo, Coach K arent coming either...and Mack and Miller were the only 2 ‘hot names’...

However, I can admit when I was wrong, and I was wrong to be excited by the Archie hire. I’ve seen no individual or team improvement, poorly prepared and motivated play, no better recruiting than previous, and cant think of a single area in which the program is clearly in better shape than pre-Archie...

I read that LSU is persuing Musselman pretty heavily...so we will likely miss out on Hoiberg and Musselman both to let Archie have his 3rd season w no NCAA tournament success...

Because sports media never gets anything wrong. That being said, Archie would be more successful at a school that doesn’t handcuff its revenue generating programs.

We will all know if Archie is a bust hire next year. If IU doesn't show improvement then Archie or Fred will be gone. Or both

Holtmann or Mack.

I wouldn't consider Holtmann or Mack to be a bolder pick. You certainly could make the case that both have had better results in the last two years, but at the time the decision was being made neither of those two were any more of a bold pick that was Archie. They were all pretty much the same type of choice.

I was also hopeful that the Archie hire would turn into a home and home w Arizona, and be a step towards renewing the UK game in some manner...but that was just my own hopeful wishing...

Nebraska does seem more committed. They gave Miles 7 years to establish his system and he really never got it done. Time to make a change for them.

At IU, people want Archie gone after 2 years. No committment.

Yeah. CAMs first class of his own just finished their first year. All hope is lost...

I know I shouldn't but EXACTLY how is IU handcuffing it's revenue generating programs?

And please don't give me the bills of rights thing.

And as of right now, we don't know if the media got anything wrong.

So how do they sell him to recuits..
He was once a little better than average at ISU.
67.%..
But....If I want a kid..I'm telling him.
He was voted the WORST coach in the NBA in 2017.
Let's see how it plays out...
Might be great ..Might be average..

Have you looked at his years at Iowa St compared to those before him...and his conference finishes in the Big12?

For a ‘first time’ college head coach...he was exceptional and exciting...

True. I think some are just jaded because Crean got too much time to make it happen. Now some are way too sensitive and want immediate success despite CAM inheriting a roster that lost its top players from a team that didn’t make the tourney.

I also recall Few, Marshall, Jay Wright, and Tony Bennett being of high interest to many...but either they weren’t interested, or their interest weren’t gauged...

Exacty, I'm rooting for Purdue tonight! … about a die hard fan as there ever has been! Things need to change.

Maybe I misunderstood your question. If you mean bolder as in IU is trying to act like a blueblood, going all-in, you gotta go with big names and big, big money. Obviously that would be Stephens, Bennett and Donovan. If you meant bolder as being a shock value hire, then Sampson, Marshall, Few and Alford.

Now before any of you dimwitted slowtards get an itch to reply, these are not necessarily my picks. Just answering a slippery question what IU probably should have done if Glass had kept his word on wanting to win championships AND that money would not be an issue on the pending hire. I personally doubt Glass, was willing to shell out serious cash to get any of the elite choices that are needed to get things back in order. If there was, you can almost be sure Fred was giving out lowball offers to no takers, leaving us with an overpaid mid major coach to make it look like "we hired who we wanted."
