Roger Taney looks exactly like one would expect him to look:You forgot Bull Conner and Roger Taney. 😁
- Dick Lugar
- Lee Hamilton (indiana representative)
- Former governor Lamn (Colorado)
- Reagan
- Sam Nunn (Senator from Georgia if I recall correctly)
- Joe Manchin (Only present day one that I can tolerate)
You're apparently so hyperpartisan you've lost the ability to think clearly. You make these sweeping declarations that you simply pull out of your ass.Worst:
Bill Clinton- worst President of all time. Not even close. Whereas Truman's presidency got looked upon more favorably as time passed, Slick Willie's gets precipitously worse.
Uuhhmm, what about...oh it's you, never mind.Worst:
Bill Clinton- worst President of all time.
There's a lot of people on here that seem to have a lot of hate. While there are presidents whose policies I didn't like I sure didn't despise/hate them. What's so ironic in a way is that people judge another person by how they act in public no matter if they are a horse's butt in private. There were lots of people who hated RMK because of some of his shenanigans but he did a lot of good stuff in the background. And there are people who really liked him because he won who would have hated him if he had been a politician in the opposite party from what they were.Lastly, I dispised him as a president but I think George W would be an absolute blast to hang out and have a beer with. He seems like a guy who would be hard not to like personally. Same goes for Reagan.
What, no Lester Maddox, John Connally, or Jesse Helms? I mean as long as you're going to list Racist Dems who left the party over civil rights, (or in the case of Thurmond-the horror of integrating the US Military) and then were rejuvenated and finished out their days as Racist Pubs, why stop with just those two...Strom Thurmond
George Wallace
By all means, post your list and let me have a go at a critique. Don't afraid to step into the arena. What, no Lester Maddox, John Connally, or Jesse Helms? Just kind of curious what you find "admirable" about either Thurmond or Wallace?
How old ARE you? What could a "non-racist" begin to admire about George Wallace? I mean this is pretty cut and dried - "insipid Black voters", "segregation now, segregation tomorrow and segregation forever!". Really not a lot of nuance there...
I do enjoy Randy Newman's namecheck of "Lester" in one of the standout cuts from my favorite Randy Newman album...
"Last night I saw Lester Maddox on a TV show
With some smart ass New York Jew
And the Jew laughed at Lester Maddox
And the audience laughed at Lester Maddox too
Well he may be a fool but he's our fool
If they think they're better than him they're wrong
So I went to the park and I took some paper along
And that's where I made this song
We talk real funny down here
We drink too much and we laugh too loud
We're too dumb to make it in no Northern town
And we're keepin' the n*****s down
We got no necked oilmen from Texas
And good ol' boys from Tennessee
And college men from LSU
Went in dumb, come out dumb too
Hustlin' 'round Atlanta in their alligator shoes
Gettin' drunk every weekend at the barbecues
And they're keepin' the n*****s down"

Question for ya. Do you consider James Carville a racist? What, no Lester Maddox, John Connally, or Jesse Helms? Favorite:
Trey Gowdy
Peter Fitzgerald former Senator from Illinois. About the best thing I'll say about anyone or anything from Illinois.
Worst:
Bill Clinton- worst President of all time. Not even close. Whereas Truman's presidency got looked upon more favorably as time passed, Slick Willie's gets precipitously worse. Scumbag of a human too. Love watching old YouTube clips of leftist Christopher Hitchens absolutely fileting the Clintons.
Well, thanks.Lol.... when I think of small minded idiots.....I see someone like you. I'm sure you jerk off to Rush soundbites in a dropped ceiling basement.
Your recency bias shows the depth of a toddler pool. Did you flunk US history?
You mean was don't you .... he's dead isn't he?Everyone should shoot for being half the man Dick Lugar is.... if they actually want to be a public servant.
His primary defeat basically started my transition to being an anti-partisan being.
When you desire to kick out someone that cares as much as he did, you know you're just a fkn clown.
You probably don't, as you are an idiot.
Also when I really started to dislike idiots.
Well, thanks.
Recency bias?
Laughable......any other buzzwords that you wanna use...
Don't forget my "white privlege".....
Nice ad hominem. Typical.....
You mean was don't you .... he's dead isn't he?
Yeah for the most part I think Lugar voted the way he thought was right and NOT just for the party. I can remember him going against the party line to support Clinton in a few things. I really thought that Evan Bayh might be another one kinda like Lugar but he never had the balls to really go against the party line.
Do you think the comeback segregation is making on many college campuses is because those who want black graduations or want to exclude white people from certain events are bigots?CNN is running a documentary series called 'The Story of Late Night'.
In it they touch on Dick Cavett and how he tried to brand himself as a deep thinker, higher level interviewer so he tackled more politically charged topics than Carson.
Anyway they brought up the Lester Maddox interview where Maddox walked out because he was offended that the term bigots was used to describe his base (Maddox was as you said a staunch segregationist and felt that integration was a communistic/socialistic plot to weaken the country, etc. Basically a lot of the same 'socialist, deep state' paranoia that we have today.
Anyway what I took notice was how angry he got that someone would call him a bigot.
It's easy with the lens of history to see how bigoted segregation was but at the time, it didn't seem like those that fought integration thought they were being a bit racist.
Trollish.....hilarious. Pot meet kettle. You fail miserably. Your critique is devoid of substance. Just personal attacks. Weak .....When someone posts something as trollish as you did, it deserves an ad hominem.
If you were actually serious, that's even more bothersome, as it would show the complete failure of our education system.
And that's from someone that never voted nor much supported Clinton.
You got time to respond to him??? I figured your was counting the all the money that you've made off of cryptocurrencies... 😁are you posting content right now or your usual bs?
And that Eppy just did a drive by post pouring salt in the wounds. MATIC....You got time to respond to him??? I figured your was counting the all the money that you've made off of cryptocurrencies... 😁
You have the same scheme buying currencies that I have with stocks....buy high and sell low. 😁And that Eppy just did a drive by post pouring salt in the wounds. MATIC....
Lmao. I rely on anonymous tips. This MATIC is a sure thing! You have the same scheme buying currencies that I have with stocks....buy high and sell low. 😁
I think it's in Tip O'Neill's either autobiography or biography where he talks about regularly having a beer with Reagan. I'm not doing the story justice, but essentially he stated that they could be vehemently opposed on a particular piece of legislation, but after hours they could share a beer, a laugh and ask about their families. There's a lot of people on here that seem to have a lot of hate. I suspect 90 percent of this board would get along great at happy hour or a ball game. It’s politics as a topic that invites contemptI think it's in Tip O'Neill's either autobiography or biography where he talks about regularly having a beer with Reagan. I've use O'Neill an Reagan several times as an example several times. They were at the opposite end of the political scale but they could come to agreement on some things. Each realized the had to give up some of their wants to get some of their wants and each was willing to do it. Thanks for the pointer.... that sounds like an interesting read.I think it's in Tip O'Neill's either autobiography or biography where he talks about regularly having a beer with Reagan. To name a few.
There was a book called The Natural by Joe Klein of Primary Colors fame. It's a great book about Bill Clinton. Only a couple hundred pages. Klein points out how brilliant Clinton was as a person and a politician. But the real point of the book is essentially; how can such a brilliant person surround himself with such sleazy people?Jefferson
Roosevelt (Teddy)
Eisenhower
Reagan
GWB
Dick Lugar
Birch Bayh
Otis Bowen
Mitch Daniels
Bill Hudnut
Steve Goldsmith
I will echo Fletch's sentiment for Trey Gowdy (which is why I liked his post), even though I don't necessarily share his complete contempt for the Clinton(s). I think they are both shitty humans, but they are savvy to the nth degree as political animals, so I have to respect at least that. I view AOC the same way. I would likely be opposed to nearly every policy stance that she has, but her ability to reach, motivate and excite her base is impressive.
Bill comes across as a very likable person... Hillary as a bitch. Of course that is just my perception of them. Even though I didn't like a lot of his policies and his morals you gotta give credit where credit is due... he was a very, very good politician and a good speaker. None of the presidents since him are in his league as a politician or speaker. JMOery interesting book. I think in terms of intelligence and political savvy, he has to be one of the most brilliant in US history. He's very flawed.
