IU has the talent to be an 8 win team. It's been evident all year long. Unfortunately, they still find ways to lose too often. I expect to see the team that went from not being able to compete week in and week out last year to a team that competed and was in every game but 1 this year. Next year I believe the evolutionary stride to be to win a couple of these and will propel us to 8 wins. I'm very pleased with how they progressed and look forward to seeing CKW for a long time at IU.
I didn't connect the dots that three years ago when Lagow was being recruited to play at Uconn it was on the heels of their BCS birth. Likely he would be starting if he was still there.
I applaud Redding yesterday and a fantastic job he did but I'm not sold on him as a premier back for next year. He doesn't punish people and doesn't have breakaway speed. He has good lateral movement allowing him to get outside but not that extra gear to pull away from defenders.
Cobbs needs to work on his focus. That drop from Paige is inexcusable. It happens way too often with him. He's far better this year than last but I see next level talent in him so the dropping issue that must get corrected next year.
I believe our defense will be vastly improved next year. My concern will be pass rush but we improved greatly on run stopping. We gave up a lot of big play runs this year. We will improve on this next year. This is on the middle linebackers to cover gaps better. A total defense ranked in the 70s or better and the defense will contribute to 2 extra wins.
Overall, I'm thrilled with what the future brings for IU. We have to retain our assistants and CKW. I believe our program is still quite fragile and needs cohesiveness for at least 2 more years to create stability.
