Hurley seems like the sort of snake to take stabs at win/win situations like this one as he did last season.

Mountain of cash to go to the NBA.

Or,

Use the NBA interest to leverage more cash out of UConn athletics and more cash out of UConn's NIL boosters.

Didn’t he do that last year when the Lakers wanted him?
I don't now specifically, but I'd say the coaching interest to extension/raise is the same to college coaches as the slip and fall is to scammers, or bait and switch to retailers. And probably no less common.

Everything I've read says Adelman is the favorite for the Denver job-assuming he does a decent job the rest of this year.

Hurley seems too much like Mike Malone. When it comes to coaching changes, a team usually does not hire the same type of coach as the one they just fired. Also, the Denver GM was also fired. Usually the GM hires the coach. Finally, the timing sucks for a college coach to be taking a job with an NBA that will be in the playoffs.

Malone was fired because he couldn't get along with the GM, not because the players had tuned him out.

But you're right about the GM usually making the hire. They probably won't decide until after the playoffs.

They won back to back nattys! If you can’t get a raise and more NIL after that you never will!
I just think with Hurley's recent whining about half his roster being in the portal, he might be feeling like he needs more NIL$. Look at how the NIL market has jumped. Last year Ballo was probably one of the 5 highest paid NIL deals supposedly at around $1.5 mill. This year, it looks like a P5 starter is going to generally cost $2-3 million. I doubt many coaches prepared for that. When we were hearing we were going to be flush with cash in the $10-11 million range of NIL and rev share it sounded great, but now having to fill 13 roster spots, that could be stretched thin.

He's had multiple raises. Better produce.

June 22, 2023:
"UConn on Thursday announced a six-year, $31.5 million contract extension for men's basketball coach Dan Hurley."

April 9, 2024:
"
In addition to a net, a trophy and a ring, Connecticut men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley will collect a $500,000 bonus for the Huskies’ defeat of Purdue on Monday night in the NCAA men's tournament championship game.

A second consecutive national title means that Hurley will receive at least $1.8 million in bonuses for a season in which Connecticut becomes the first school to win consecutive national men’s titles since Florida did so in 2006-07."

Why does everyone think money is the only reason to stay somewhere. It comes down to if he wants to be a college coach or if he has aspirations to be an NBA coach. Does he want to deal with NIL and recruiting or deal with NBA egos and whining from players like LeBron.

Said this many times, but I had a friend who's brother was a D1 college coach and he said the general feeling is that the NBA gigs are preferable because you don't have to deal with the NCAA, boosters, recruits, AAU etc... and can only focus on bball, and that despite the additional games, the travel is better. He said some stick around long term, but most coaches at some point get tired of the grind and prefer the NBA regiment. I'm sure NIL and the portal only add to making college less appealing.
