IU is the home team. It will be RHP Jackson Yarberry on the mound with Stadler behind the plate after missing games because of illness. While I haven't seen a batting order/lineup yet, I did learn that Taylor has moved to CF for this game with Dickerson as the DH.

It's another great day for baseball with the current temp at 69 and it's sunny. The wind is minimal at 5 mph with little gusts at 9 mph.

T1st:

Yarberry hit the leadoff hitter to put a man on to start the game. Yarberry had control issues to start the game as he walked the next batter on four pitches.

A deep fly got over Taylor's head in CF with a run scoring, but they sent the second runner who was tagged out at home for one out and a runner at 2nd.

Yarberry walked another batter on a 3-1 count to put runners at 1st and 2nd. Yarberry got a K for the 2nd out and a groundout retired the side.

B1st:

The batting order for IU is Wiggins (RF), Taylor (CF), Dickerson (DH), Hanley, Denny (LF), Cerny, Oliver, Stadler, and Moore and they will be facing a lefty on the mound to start the game.

Wiggins walked on a full count pitch clock violation. Wiggins stole 2nd.

Wiggens moved to the 3rd on a FC by Taylor with one out.

Dickerson singled to score Taylor and a runner at 1st and one out.

Hanley singled to put runners at 1st and 2nd and one out.

Denny walked on a 3-1 count to load the bases with Cerny up and one out.

Cerny hit a SAC fly to give IU a 2-1 lead and two outs with runners at 1st and 2nd.

Oliver Kd swinging to end the inning.

End of 1st: IU 2 MSM 1

T2nd:

Yarberry faced the bottom of the order. The leadoff hitter reached on a single. Taylor dropped a fly in center, but they ruled it a single to put runners on 1st and 2nd.

A SAC bunt moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out.

A single scored two runs with a runner at 1st and one out and Yarberry's day is over with as IU goes to the bullpen.

LHP Grant Holderfield is on the mound and he Kd the first batter on three pitches for two outs.

The runner stole 2nd. Holderfield then hit a batter to put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs.

A throwing error on Stadler on a double steal allowed the lead runner to score with a runner at 2nd and two outs. The run was unearned.

Another single scored a run to make it 5-2 and there were runners at 1st and 2nd with two outs. It looks like this will be day where IU is hitting the ball, since pitching and fielding have already hurt us early on.

A liner to Cerny finally retired the side in a rather long inning.

B2nd:

It's the 8 thru 1 hitters up with Stadler leading off. Stadler was hit in the head and was on the ground face down. Schuyler took over for Stadler and he took 2nd on a WP with no outs.

Moore walked on a 3-1 count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and we were at the top of the order in Wiggins.

Wiggins was out on an infield fly rule for the 1st out.

Taylor sent a long fly to the warning track which fell for a single. Moore was out on a base running mistake, with Taylor then taking 2nd with Schuyler scoring on the play.

Dickerson walked on a 3-1 count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs.

Taylor was caught stealing 3rd to end the inning.

End of 2nd: MSM 5 IU 3

T3rd:

RHP Seth Benes replaced Holderfield and he faced the bottom of the order.

With the error, erratic pitching and base running mistakes, IU had better settle down as this game is starting to look like yesterday's game.

Benes gave up a double to the leadoff hitter and MSM already has six hits on the game.

Benes then walked a batter on four pitches to put runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs.

Benes hit a batter to load the bases with no outs and the question is, can IU find a pitcher that can get outs? That was with the bottom of the order.

Benes got a big K for the first out against the top of the order.

A big DP allowed Benes to get out of a huge jam with no damage done.

B3rd:

It was the middle of the order up with Hanley leading off and MSM went to the bullpen and brought in a rightie.

Hanley flied out for the first out. Denny singled to put a runner on with one out.

Cerny was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd.

Oliver singled to score Denny and there were runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

Schuyler doubled to score both Cerny and Oliver and give IU the lead 6-5 with a runner at 2nd and one out.

Moore flied out for two outs, and Schuyler took 3rd on a WP.

Wiggins was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners and two outs and Taylor at the plate.

Taylor walked on a full count to load the bases and two outs with Dickerson up.

Dickerson Kd to end the inning.

End of 3rd: IU 6 MSM 5

T4th:

Benes was back out there and faced the 3 thru 5 hitters and he gave up a leadoff single. A groundout got the first out with the runner reaching 2nd.

Another groundout moved the runner to 3rd and two outs. A two-out, two-run homer gave MSM the lead again at 7-6.

A K retired the side but not before the damage had been done.

B4th:

It's the middle of the order up with Hanley leading off and he singled.

Denny was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs. Four IU batters have been hit so far with Stadler knocked out of the game with a head shot because of it.

MSM went to the bullpen and brought in another righty John Halcisk and he had some good numbers coming in with 11.2 IP and an ERA of 1.54, with Cerny up.

A WP moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Another WP scored Hanley to tie the game and a runner at 3rd and no outs.

Cerny tripled to score Denny as IU regained the lead 8-7 and there were no outs. Another WP scored Cerny to give IU a 9-7 lead.

Oliver doubled with no outs to put another runner in scoring position. The ball dropped between outfielders.

Schuyler walked on four pitches to put a runner on with no outs.

Moore moved Schuyler to 2nd on a SAC bunt with one out.

We were at the top of the order with Wiggins up.

Wiggins got a single to score Oliver and runners on the corners with one out.

Taylor doubled to score Schuyler to make it 11-7 and runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out.

Dickerson singled to score Wiggins and Taylor to make it 13-7.

Hanley singled to put runners on the corners with one out.

Denny Kd for the 2nd out and MSM went to the bullpen again and brought in RHP Brandon Rice with Cerny at the plate.

Cerny grounded out to end a 7-run inning for IU with 12-batters going to the plate.

End of 4th: IU 13 MSM 7

T5th:

Buhr replaced Benes and he faced the 8 thru 1 hitters. Buhr has been great in middle relief and hopefully he can settle down the pitching.

Buhr put them down in order to include a K. First clean inning by either team so far.

B5th:

It's the bottom of the order up and Oliver popped up for the first out.

Schuyler walked on a full count to put a man on and one out.

Schuyler took 2nd on a passed ball. Moore walked on a full count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and one out, with the top of the order up in Wiggins.

Wiggins doubled to score both Schuyler and Moore to make it 15-7.

Taylor walked on four pitches to put runners at 1st and 2nd and one out with Dickerson up.

Dickerson reached on a FC with Taylor out at 2nd and runners on the corners and two outs.

Hanley walked on a 3-1 count to load the bases with two outs, and MSM goes to the bullpen again.

Denny popped out to end the inning.

End of 5th: IU 15 MSM 7

The way this game started it looked like it was going to be another fundamental disaster with erratic pitching. IU hitting kept them in the game early on until things stabilized with the pitching of Buhr in middle relief.

IU outhit MSM, 18-8, and the hit parade seemed to hit the entire lineup so I'm not going to itemized that, but Dickerson as the DH went 3 for 5 for 6 RBIs and a 3-run homer.

Pitching was sporadic until Buhr came in and pitched three straight perfect innings retiring nine-straight batters.

Buhr continues to be great in middle relief and I sure wished I knew what Vogel's issue is and if it is of short or long duration, since I already mentioned in earlier posts that Buhr and Vogel were great in middle relief last season.

IU committed one error while MSM had two errors.

IU went 3-1 in the tournament to stay at .500 on the season. The competition was such that they should have swept the four games, but the game yesterday was a dud in all three major categories of hitting, pitching, and fielding.

I’m just not much of a believer at this point. Good teams are going to embarrass us.
I think we all wonder just how this season is going to play out with the up and down play in the early going of the season. This was the 4th game of the weekend, so I wasn't sure how the pitching was going to go in this game.

Regardless of the bullpen pitching which was looking at the some of the backend of the pen (IMO) until Buhr came in, that doesn't excuse the early error and base running mistakes we made.

Kraft had another not so good outing yesterday, and I don't know if they are ready to let him stew in the bullpen for a while before bringing him in for a game that is still in the winnable stage.

With all of the offense today, here's the box score for today's game.
