EXPECTATIONS FOR STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
Indiana's non-conference schedule doesn't have any sub-300 opponents for the first time ever, something Archie Miller said he would do when he was hired.

Have a look at the non-conference schedule ranked by preseason KenPom ranks.

• Florida State (14)
• Notre Dame (42)
• Arkansas (44)
• UConn (71)
• Louisiana Tech (110)
• Princeton (180)
• South Dakota State (208)
• Portland State (273)
• Troy (277)
• North Alabama (280)
• Western Illinois (296)

Given this finding, one might expect to find the average KenPom rank for opponents to be much improved from year's past.

But you might be surprised.

AVERAGE NON-CONFERENCE KENPOM RANK:
•2018 - 165.3
•2019 - 158.0
•2020 - 163.2

In other words, don't expect this years non-conference strength of schedule to improve much from the last two seasons, if at all.

ROMEO'S DEBUT
Romeo Langford's NBA debut could be on hold due to a balky knee. The Boston Celtics will travel to Philadelphia to open the regular season (6:30 PM ET) on Wednesday, but it's doubtful he sees the floor.

Langford was able to go through practice Monday, sticking to only non-contact work, Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe reports.

He'll be back in short order, barring no further setbacks.

So what would be considered a successful first season as the 14th overall pick? First, have a look at the 14th selection of each draft the last 39 years.

SAVED BY JAHAAD
Purdue lost a ton of scoring and leadership from a year ago - over 1500 possessions to be exact. After Carsen Edwards departed for the NBA Draft, there was reason to believe this might be a down year in West Lafayette. Then High Point graduate transfer Jahaad Proctor showed up, and his presence could save the Boilers season.

Get to know Proctor, who loves the mid-range game and is great at scoring around the basket. He's a different skillset than Edwards, and won't have the same impact. But Proctor can score, and his presence lengthens Painter's bench, allowing freshman Brandon Newman to ease into high-major college basketball.
