I was unaware until this afternoon that they had moved this series up to a Weds thru Fri series and I missed the tweet on that which came out yesterday.

RHP Evan Whiteaker gets the start for IU.

1st Inning:

T1st:

Whiteaker got the leadoff batter on a lineout. He then gave up an infield single to put a man on. A pop out resulted in the 2nd out and a WP moved the runner to 2nd. Another single scored the runner from 2nd who was moving on the contact. A K retired the side.

B1st:

Glasser flied out and Cerny grounded out for two outs to start the game for IU.

Devin Taylor hitting in the No. 3 spot then hit a 400 ft homer to tie the game. It was Taylors first homer as a Hoosier.

Tibbitts singled and took 2nd on a WP.

Jessee grounded out to end the inning.

2nd Inning:

T2nd:

Whiteaker put them down in order.

B2nd:

Pyne reached on an error to lead off.

Mathison just missed a homer when the ball hit the top of the left center wall and the double moved runners to 2nd and 3rd with no outs.

Whalen reached on a FC with Pyne scoring an unearned run and Mathison was tagged out after being caught between bases with Whalen moving to 2nd with one out.

Serruto K'd for the 2nd out and Whalen still at 2nd. Glasser grounded out to end the inning with IU up 2-1 and it could have been more.

3rd Inning:

The Morehead St. starter came into the game with good numbers with an ERA of 2.08 in 13 IP.

T3rd:

Whiteaker gives up a lead off homer to the No. 9 hitter to tie the game at 2-2, and the two runs given up by Whiteaker are the first two runs off him this season.

Whiteaker gets the next batter on a GO for the first out. He then gets the next hitter on a K for two outs, and a flyout retires the side.

B3rd:

Cerny lined out, Taylor grounded out, and Tibbitts singled to put a runner on with two outs.

Jessee doubled down the LF line to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs. Pyne then just missed on a homer with the ball caught against the wall to end the inning with the game tied.

4th Inning:

T4th:

Ty Bothwell replaced Whiteaker and he entered the game with a 9.00 ERA in 7.1 IP.

Bothwell got the first two batters for two outs and then gave up a homer down the LF line that just barely got over the short wall down that line to give Morehead St the lead again at 3-2. A flyout retired the side.

B4th:

Mathison singled to lead off. Whalen reached on a FC with Mathison out at 2nd.

Serruto singled to put two on and one out. Glasser flied out for the 2nd out.

Cerny K'd to end the inning and IU left two runners on for the 2nd straight inning.

5th Inning:

T5th:

Bothwell faced the 8, 9, and 1 hitters and it's getting old as Bothwell hit the leadoff hitter and that is the 7th hit batter since yesterday. IU has 20 hit batters so far on the season after finishing next to last in that category in the NCAAs last season.

The runner was caught stealing for the 1st out and then Bothwell hit his 2nd batter to put another runner on after they got the first one stealing.

With one out on the caught stealing and two hit batters by Bothwell, he is gone as Mercer brings in RHP Ethan Phillips who has yet to give up a run in 4 IP.

Bothwell went 1.1 IP with the lone hit given up a homer and he hit two batters, and he was charged with an error. It was not what you would consider an encouraging outing for Bothwell.

Phillips gets the first batter to line into DP. After the Morehead players thought a fly wasn't caught by Whalen when it was, and they easily got the runner that had left 1st for the DP to retire the side.

B2nd:

Taylor led off with a single up the middle and Tibbitts was hit by a pitch to put two on and no outs.

That chases the starter and MSU brought in lHP Riley Bradshaw with an ERA of 3.68 in 7.1 IP.

Jessee grounded out for the first out with the runners moving to 2nd and 3rd.

Pyne reached on a FC with Tibbitts out at 3rd for the 2nd out with Taylor scoring to tie the game at 3-3.

Mathison grounded out to end the inning.

6th Inning:

T6th:

Phillips is back on the mound and he got the leadoff man on a K and then gave up a single to the next hitter.

He got a flyout for the 2nd out with the runner still at first. A GO retired the side.

B6th:

It's the 8, 9, and 1 hitters up for IU. Whalen grounded out and Serruto flied out for two outs. Glasser singled and Cerny grounded out to end the inning, leaving a runner on.

7th Inning:

T7th:

Phillips put them down in order.

B7th:

It's the 3-5 hitters up with Taylor leading off and he grounded out. Tibbitts K'd for the 2nd out. Jessee flied out to end the inning.

8th Inning:

T8th:

RHP Craig Yoho came in for Phillips and he has yet to give up a run in 8 IP and he faced the 9. 1, and 2 hitters. It was an excellent outing for Phillips.

Yoho gave up a single to the leadoff hitter. The runner on 1st was called out on a FC in which the ball hitting the runner and was called out on interference with a runner on 1st and one out.

The runner stole 2nd and then Yoho gave up a 2-run homer when it just fair down the LF line for the first runs that Yoho has given up so far this season.

A GO retired the side and IU is getting close to having what you would call a really bad loss to a team that has lost 7 of their last 8 games.

B8th:

Pyne singled and reached 2nd on an error to lead off. Mathison grounded out moving Pyne to 3rd. Whalen then lined out with Pyne still at 3rd and two outs.

Ellis came in as a pinch hitter for Serruto, and MSU went to the bullpen and brings in RHP Jarrett Miller with an ERA of 2.25 in 8 IP.

Ellis walked with Murrison coming in to pinch run for him with runners on the corners and two outs.

Glasser singled to score Pyne to make it 5-4 MSU, and Cerny at the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd. Cerny grounded out to end the inning.

9th Inning:

T9th:

Yoho was back out on the mound and the leadoff hitter got an infield hit, but Yoho K'd the next three batters to retire the side.

B9th:

Taylor hit a solo homer to lead off to tie the game. Tibbitts was hit by a pitch. Jessee grounded out with Tibbitts taking 2nd and Tibbitts then reached 3rd on a WP.

Pyne K'd for the 2nd out and Mathison was intentionally walked to put runners on the corners with two outs.

Whalen then K'd as IU missed a golden chance to win this game when they had Tibbitts on 3rd with just one out. IU has left 12 runners on in this game so far. The game went to extra innings.

10th Inning:

T10th:

Kraft relieved Yoho and the leadoff hitter reached on an error in RF by Jessee and went to 2nd with no outs. An infield lineout, a GO, and another lineout retired the side with the error doing no damage.

B10th:

Colopy came in to pinch hit for Langerman who came in to catch. Colopy K'd to lead off.

Glasser then walked to put a runner on with one out and Cerny up who was 0-5 on the day.

Cerny then singled to left center and he reached 2nd with Glasser taking 3rd and one out.

Taylor was intentionally walked to load the bases with Tibbitts up and one out with the infield in right now.

Tibbitts got a walk off single to win the game in what would have been a bad loss for IU, especially after the debacle yesterday.

nice win although more errors and Glasser contributed a lackadaisical grounder approach for an infield which is as good as an error (hope he’s getting his seasons worth out of the way early). Yoho gave up a crucial 2 run homer but still looked good and coach pushed Taylor up in the order amongst other shuffles (i thnk 82IU called that one before the game!)

After the debacle yesterday in Lexington, IU flirted with a bad loss against a Morehead St team that came into the game losers of 7 of their past 8 games. IU hammered out 14 hits, but left 15 baserunners on today which highlights the lack of clutch hits in scoring situations. However, Tibbitts clutch hit in the 10th won the game for IU. MSU had 5 runs off 8 hits with their 3 homers accounting for 4 of their runs.

There were three multi-hit players for IU:

Taylor, who was moved up in the order, was 3 for 5 as the DH and he tied the game in the 9th on a leadoff homer, his 2nd homer of the game. He had two RBIs.

Glasser was 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Mathison was 2 for 4 with a double.

IU was charged with two errors with Jessee's 2-base error in the T10th with no outs was almost disastrous, but Kraft pitched out of the inning by putting down the next three batters to end the threat. Bothwell, in another poor outing, got the other error.

In the pitching department, both Whiteaker and Yoho gave up their first runs of the season, with Yoho recovering for a good 9th inning. IU pitchers did not give up a walk in the game which is a big positive, but Bothwell hit 2 batters to give IU eight hit batters combined in the back-to-back games.

Whiteaker got the start and his outing was a mixed bag. He went 3.0 IP, 2 runs both earned, 3 Ks, 0 BBs, 1 WP, and he gave up a homer. His WP in the 1st inning put a runner on 2nd with two outs and the runner scored on a single for the first run of the game.

Bothwell relieved Whiteaker and he had another short but bad outing. He went 1.1 IP, 1 hit, 1 run earned, 0 Ks, 0 BBs, and 2 hit batters. He gave up a homer and he was also charged with a throwing error.

Phillips had another really good outing and he has yet to give up a run in 9.1 IP. He went 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 runs, 2Ks, and 0 BBs.

Yoho also had a mixed bag outing. He gave up a 2-run homer in the 8th that was just fair down the LF line that looked like a killer since it gave MSU a 5-3 lead and those were the first runs given up by Yoho this season. He recovered with a good 9th. His numbers were: 2.0 IP, 3 Hs, 2 runs both earned, 4 Ks, and 0 BBs.

Kraft pitched the 10th and got the win by putting them down in order after Jessee's error on the leadoff batter, in another good relief outing for him.

There's a chance of intermittent rain tomorrow afternoon with a high of 57 and a 55 pct chance of afternoon showers with the wind out of the south at 15 mph. The game time tomorrow is supposed to be 4 p.m., but with the weather being what it is, they may shift things around, so we need to keep an eye on that.
