Hate to tell the parents, but that consultant is going to make little difference. Like so many things, much of it is who you know. Legacies don’t make nearly the impact they used to, but knowing people in the house does. It’s gotten better, in that you aren’t allowed to even discuss looks during new member recruitment, but code is she won’t fit in. I know at IU they have been trying to diversify for years, but I don’t know the answer to that. Every year there are a few Asian girls but Black sororities have their own separate recruitment. Even Jewish girls tend to pledge certain houses. The process is an absolute mess and I don’t know a solution. But the Greek system itself and the positives once you are there outweighs the negatives IMO.

IU is highly competitive and has a really strong Greek system. But one thing they have done right is make houses take larger classes ( there’s problems with that too) so that most every girl who goes through with all of recruitment gets a house. Some of the sororities are unhoused and some struggle to fill the houses, but if you want to belong you usually can.
