What in the actual Hell? This can't really be up for discussion. From the linked article:

"Biden allied groups, including the Democratic National Committee, are also planning to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS carriers to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text messages. The goal is to ensure that people who may have difficulty getting a vaccination because of issues like transportation see those barriers lessened or removed entirely."

The only way they can do that is they're monitoring your private SMS communications in real time.

Oh, don't worry. I'm sure they're just planning on collecting meta data.....

Of course they were always going to do this. The Democrats love secret police. What do you think the Communists and Socialists have historically done to their opponents?

But thankfully no more mean tweets.
They all love their secret police. This is just a continuation of the the Patriot Act under Bush.

That's wasn't the intent of the Patriot Act, but as we saw with Russia Russia Russia and the bogus FISA warrants, Democrats have turned it into their own secret police.
That wasn't the stated intent, but anyone with an understanding of history knew where it was headed. It didn't suddenly get shut off during Trump and then turned back on with Biden.

Don't be stupid. The govt needs a warrant of some kind to monitor private text messages.

This has to do with the robo-texting software that blasts out messages to everyone on a list. Often these programs blast out 10m+ messages at once. I don't quite know what the regulatory rules are on this, but it's my understanding by law one is supposed to opt- in to receive these type messages.... and there certainly seems to be some leeway with regulators limiting the type of mass texting that occurs on SMS carriers.

Some of you must buy tinfoil by the truckload

Lol. Yeah no government entity would ever spy on someone without a warrant. Just lol.

Even I question the ACTUAL "Intent". I was not a fan of it from day one, knowing that it would be corrupted... If that was baked in to start with.
I guess I was naive. I thought, if a judge had to approve a FISA warrant, that would be enough protection from the types of sleazeballs in the FBI. The FBI, for God's sake. You'd think, in a group of agents, someone would speak up and say 'Hey, you know, we've found this dossier to be BS. We'd better let everyone know'.

But no - they doubled down on it.

How no one is in jail for that is reason for the Patriot Act to be repealed ASAP.

The government doesn’t need a warrant to Monitor private text messages! They need a warrant if they are going to use the information in court!

Don't be naïve. Remember sneak and peek searches that were originally part of the Patriot Act?

They do it and lie about it under oath.

Clapper says hi, BTW.

Naw, just pointing our the hypocrites in this thread that had no issue with Trump misusing the DOJ.

Oh lord.

Yes, the govt wants to sneak and peak at your txt msgs, no doubt.... you subversive, you. Maybe they'll catch the one where your wife told you to pickup more Tampax.

Don't be embarrassed that you read that article and jumped to such a conclusion. Appears several others did as well. Biden admin should hide their illegal spying better than announcing it in Politico ahead of time. At least you got a heads up.

No embarrassment here. It's a freaking unconstitutional overreach if they do it. I've got nothing to hide, but what I do have is none of their business. The fact that they're exploring it is where I'm disgusted. There's zero regard for privacy as evidenced by past actions and looking toward their future proposals. Again, it's not one party or the other to me, because they have both supported it in the past.

Edited for horrible grammar and spelling

Lots of reading comprehension issues and once the snowball got rolling, it just kept getting bigger and bigger.

Where's Nazi-su-sata on this one?

No I gotcha.... I'm just saying it's not what you think it is...... no details out, but I guarantee this is just regulatory crackdowns on robo-texting spam. Which I'm sure we've all occasionally received. Not combing through individual's text msgs.

You guarantee it? Good to have someone on the inside that knows.

Don’t be so stupid.

The government can’t have a warrant to just rummage around in someone’s private communications. The 4th Amendment requires probable cause, that usually means probable cause for finding evidence of a crime. FISA modified that to probable cause about foreign security threats. No warrant can be obtained based on a belief that somebody is posting BS about the vaccine. But in these days, the Democrats are more concerned about the narrative than the constitution.

Isn't that what I said? Wtf?

Not the way I read it. I read your post as saying the government can get a warrant to do this. If I misunderstood I apologize. My point is that there can be no warrant.

I said the govt needs a warrant to read anyone's texts (meaning obtaining one from a court, which means some probable cause).... they can't just be reading private text msgs in mass.

I have no idea what.... if anything... this possible policy is about. It wasn't a govt statement or even a quote from anyone. And maybe was just poorly written or totally misunderstood by the writer.

All just guessing.... my guess is that it had something to do with robo-texting (spam)....

What I'm 1000% sure of is the Biden admin isn't actively monitoring an entire nation's text messages and then telling a Politico reporter we're doing so.

Some common sense would be nice, but this is the WC after all.

You haven't been paying attention the last 4 1/2 years.

It's more a matter of interpretation than paying attention. The former requires a degree of intellectual capacity where Twenty holds the advantage.

I thought TwentyIQ took his ball and went home.

He only holds an advantage among his peers - 5th graders.

I hope that's the case, but I'm obviously not sharing your level of belief in it.
