Mitch Daniels

Not sure how it’s a disaster. I mean it does take time. I’ll be able to get to Indy in under an hour. It’s gonna be glorious. It’s already cut probably 15 minutes off.
I agree, all sections of it seem to have/ are going well minus the Bloomington section. That section was a nightmare not due to Mitch, it was the damn B-town tree huggin obstructionist.

The first thing I think is Amber Alert when I see that name. Maybe these Christian pro-life assholes are making some sick joke about missing children. Sounds about right for a republican. And it’s probably from some website or tv show they’ve absolutely positively never ever ever heard of.
🤦🏻 “Amber” Heard. Do I need to call a Boomer alert?

Mitch also brought us the 37/69 construction disaster
I didn't see Mitch out there with a jackhammer or directing traffic, did you?

I don't believe Mitch was Governor when the Martinsville-Bloomington section started. The other parts of the I69 project went pretty much on schedule.

Route, funding, appropriations. All led to disastrous delays. Had the opportunity to correct them all when he came in. It was early and the issues were clear.
It was a cluster with the public/private partnership with the Italian company that didn't know WTF they were doing. Pence ended that and the state took over. That's when they started making progress. We saw the difference in Bton almost immediately.

Not sure how to answer that since you speak in generalities but the route was challenged by a group who said going to Terre Haute and down would be faster (it wasn't) and cheaper (it wasn't) and as always an environmental group. The funding came from major moves. The fact is Indiana wanted to complete this route decades before Daniels got involved but couldn't get federal funding. Now are there going to be delays on such a massive project ? Pretty standard to some extent.

Daniels was never involved with the public/private partnership. His part of the project ended in Bloomington with $700 million from major moves. He was out of office by then.

Or people that did what was best would work too.

Selling a toll road to make his budget look good at the expense of future budgets and then putting in place trustees at purdue so they could turn around and put him in as president (abuse of position). Not exactly Mr. Clean.

gosh shucks gee wiz, he was dirty and corrupt regarding PSI/Duke Energy.

same at Lilly.

left a stink at Bush's OMB.

screwed the worker every chance he got in the Gov's office.

he put pot smokers in jail and prison while gov for political gain, after selling it himself in college and well knowing it shouldn't be illegal in the first place

then appointed himself PU prez on his way out the door of the gov's mansion, after being term limited.

on the plus side, he did do eastern DST, but only because his donors wanted it.

otherwise, a really scummy person who left a stink everywhere he went. (which is why he was so coveted by big money, who are looking for exactly that).

but being he was folksy while doing so, that made it all ok with the idiocracy.

I won't argue. My memory isn't what it used to be. So who was it that blew up the partnership and took over the job?

But didn't Pence inherit that partnership from Daniels?
No. Daniels part of I69 was strictly major moves money procured from the Indiana Toll Roads $4 billion. $700 million of this went to Evansville to Bloomington section and then Daniels was done. Then there was a dead period for awhile and the next administration started up with the public/private partnership which was not good. I think they had to end up hiring an Indiana company to take over from there.

Mitch had the opportunity to fix the route and put the program in a position to win. It has floundered which is why driving to IU games has been a nightmare for seven years.

Fox the route? I can only assume you are a “should go through Terre Haute” Bloomicrat?

I cant stand Holcrap or Hogshit!

Holcomb is better than mitch and pence, even if that isnt hard to do. He at least isn't as nuts as trump/Desantis. He might do well in a presidential election if he could survive the primaries. GOP loves their nuts though so I don't see that happening.

You liking Holcomb is a reason he could never make it out of the primaries. Republicans aren't going to go for a candidate that is palatable to the lunatics in the other party.

You are one of the absolute last people that Republicans should be attempting to make happy with their choice of candidates to run.

What makes him unpalatable to Republicans? Serious question.

I don't speak for all Republicans. For myself, Holcomb is part of the good old boy, corporate whore GOP that is problematic in Indiana. I don't think he handled COVID well. I don't think he has a finger on the pulse of important areas like schools in the state. He hasn't improved anything in his time in office.

He just kind of sat on what others before him had done. He takes no political risks and therefore does not accomplish anything. In the biblical story about talents, he is the servant who buried his talent.

So better than a Democrat but not anyone that I would be excited to throw a vote behind. I have never voted in a primary but if he tries to run for Senate or something like that, I would vote to try and keep him out.

Holcomb didn't misplace(squander) a multi million dollar surplus. Oh and that Aids thing. Turns out you can't just pray that away.

But yes Mitch and Holcomb are very much alike. Holcomb what 8 years later though? so not sure it could be said he was riding Mitch's coattails.

Holcomb was Mitch's campaign manager... and his admin has a lot of Daniels' people.

So what it is it you want to see him do? He pretty darn conservative. What is he not doing that you want?

Craze, interested in just who "the corporate whore GOP" is along with your take on Todd Rokita.

Tax breaks to get them here and nothing to show for it. Deals that get done with businesses because of who they know politically.

I don't have much of an opinion on Rokita one way or the other to be honest. Something specifically I should check out?
