1st Period:
Holmes was on the bench watching the game. Tenn Tech opened the game knocking down threes and were 4 for 5 from there as the game was tied at 14-14 at a timeout. IU opened the game hitting 1 of 6 threes and some of those were well off the mark. The period ended with the game tied at 18-18. Tenn Tech's game is three-point shooting so IU needed to guard the perimeter a little better. Tenn Tech picked up 7 fouls in the period, and they are all spread out with one sub with 2 fouls. IU was charged with just one foul and IU had one turnover to 0 turnovers for Tenn Tech.
2nd Period:
IU opened the period missing close-in shots. Tenn Tech wasn't scoring either. IU had missed 8 straight shots before Meister got a layup to tie the game at 20-20. IU just didn't look the same without Holmes in the lineup. The inside game started working again for IU and they took a 26-22 lead at the 5:31 mark forcing a Tenn Tech timeout. Meister was 3 for 4 from the field although that one miss was a point-blank shot at the basket. Tenn Tech's 3 point shooting had fallen to 4 of 9 at this point. IU was on a 8-0 run and was at the FT line when they went to a TV timeout at the 4:40 mark of the 2nd period. Parrish knocked down both FTs to give IU at 30-22 lead. IU pushed the run up to 10-0 as IU was killing Tenn Tech on drives to the basket. A 3 by Garzon pushed the lead up to 13 at 35-22. IU extended the run to 17 points at under 3 minutes left in the period before the Golden Eagles knocked down a 3 to stop the run. IU had the lead at 39-27 at the half.
Half: IU 39 Tenn Tech 27
It was strange to start a game with Holmes not in the lineup and it took IU some time to adjust, plus they missed several close-in shots early in the game while TTU was hot behind the arc. IU adjusted their defense and started guarding the perimeter better which cut down on the opportunities. IU hit on 53.8 pct of their shots and were 2 of 7 on 3s, while Tenn Tech was 33.3 pct from the field and 5 of 13 on threes after starting the game hitting 4 of 5 behind the arc. Berger had 13 points at the half with Meister and Parrish both having 7 points. IU had just one foul, while Tenn Tech had two starters and a sub with two fouls apiece. Tenn Tech had 5 turnovers to 4 for IU. The rebounding was even at 18 each, with Tech having 5 o-boards to 1 for IU.
3rd Period:
IU opened the period on a 5-0 run to include a 3 by Garzon to push the lead up to 17 points. It was 47-31 at a TV timeout and given the score and barring a big Tenn Tech run, it was probably a safe bet that Holmes will not enter the game today. Tenn Tech warmed up some behind the arc and had the lead down to 13 points with under two minutes left in the period. It was 56-39 at the end of the period.
4th Period: IU pushed the lead up to 63-39 to start the period and forced another timeout by Tenn Tech at the 7:29 mark. Berger left the game with 17 points at 6:20 mark, with Moore-McNeil following her shortly thereafter and she had another one of her great all-around games. IU had all subs in there after the 3 minute mark.
Parrish led IU with 19 points while Berger and Garzon had 17 and 12 points, respectively. IU hit on 57.1 pct of their shots and was 31.3 on threes while Tenn Tech was 27.7 pct from the field and 30.8 pct on threes. Both teams had 10 turnovers apiece.
