This game picked up in the bottom of the 2nd and one out with no one on and no score.

LHP Ty Bothwell is on the mound in place of Brehmer for IU with an ERA of 4.79 in 35.2, and RHP J.P. Massey is on the mound for the Gophers with an ERA of 5.64 in 52.2 IP.

In a resumption of the game of yesterday, Tibbetts strikes out on three pitches for the 2nd out and Ellis walks to put a man on with two outs. Glass strikes out to end the 2nd.
 
In the 3rd, we are at the 9, 1 and 2 hitters in the order for the Gophers. Bothwell puts them down in order.

In IU's 3rd, it's the 8, 9, 1 spots in the order up. Doanes gets a leadoff walk with Serruto up. A fielder's choice gets Doane at 2nd for one out and a runner on 1st, and we are at the top of the order in Whalen. Whalen singles for IU's first hit of the game which puts runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Jessee strikes out looking for the 2nd out. Pyne then doubles to the right CF wall to score both runners to take a 2-0 lead. Mathison then strikes out to end the inning.
 
In the 4th, the Gophers have their 3, 4 and 5 hitters up. After about 14 pitches, Bothwell gets the leadoff hitter on a K. From the 4 thru 9 hitters, the best batting avg. is .235 so this is a weak hitting lineup and we are at the No. 4 hitter. Bothwell gets another K for out No. 2. Bothwell then gets another K and strikes out the side in order.

In IU's 4th, Tibbetts leads off with a double down the LF line to the wall. Ellis strikes out for the first out and a runner on 2nd. Glasser is hit by a pitch on a 3-2 count to put runners on 1st and 2nd and one out with Doanes up. Doanes singles thru the infield to load the bases with one out and Serruto is up in the No. 9 spot. A throwing error on a throw to the plate by 3B allows Tibbetts and Glasser to score to make it 4-0, IU, with runners on the corners with one out and we are at the top of the order in Whalen. Whalen grounds into a fielder's choice which scores Doanes to make it 5-0 with a runner on 1st and two outs. All three runs so far in the inning are unearned. Whalen is caught stealing to end the inning.
 
In the 5th, Bothwell puts them down in order again and is looking sharp.

In IU's 5th, Jessee leads off with a single. Pyne pops out for the first out. A Mathison single puts runners on the corners with one out. A SAC fly by Tibbetts scores Jessee from 3rd to make it 6-0 with a runner on 1st and two outs. Ellis walks to put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs and Glasser up. A ground out ends the inning.
 
In the T6th, Bothwell gets the leadoff hitter on a ground out, but then walks a man on a 3-2 count for his first base runner today. Bothwell catches the base runner off base on a pickoff who is out at 2nd. A K ends the inning and Bothwell is still looking strong.

In IU's 6th, the Gophers go to the bullpen and bring in LHP Noah DeLuga with an ERA of 14.66 in 11.2 IP. Doanes walks on four pitches to leadoff. A SAC bunt by Serruto moves Doanes to 2nd with one out and we are at the top of the order in Whalen. Whalen the triples to the RF line to the wall to score Doanes to make it 7-0. Jessee strikes out for the 2nd out. Pyne then doubles to left center to score Whalen to make it 8-0 with two outs. Mathison then hits a 2-run homer for his team-leading 16th homer of the season to make it 10-0 with two outs. Tibbetts strikes out to end another productive inning.
 
In the 7th, Bothwell is back out on the mound and he faces the 3, 4 and 5 hitters. Goforth has replaced Glasser at SS and Murrison goes to CF for Whalen. Bothwell put them down in order.

In the B7th, Jake Skrine pinch hits for Ellis to lead off. Skrine flies out for the first out. Goforth then walks to put a man on with one out. Doanes grounds out with Goforth reaching 2nd with two outs and the Gophers go to their bullpen to bring in RHP Seth Clausen with an ERA of 8.16 in 14.1 IP. Serruto flies out to end the inning.
 
In the 8th, Bothwell is back out on the mound and his PC is at 78. IU continues to shuffle players with Goforth going to 3rd and Johnson coming in at SS. The leadoff man walks for just the 2nd runner allowed today so far. Bothwell then gets a K and a foul out on a great diving play by Tibbetts at 1B. A flyout ends the Gophers half of the inning as Bothwell continues to roll.

In IU's 8th, Murrison leads off with a single. Jessee gets a ground rule double to right center to put runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs. A SAC fly by Johnson scores Jessee to make it 11-0 with a runner on 2nd and one out. Jessee then scores from 2nd on a WP to make it 12-0 with the bases empty and one out. Two ground outs end the inning.
 
In the 9th, Bothwell is back out there to face the top of the order. The leadoff hitter reaches on an error by Mathison in LF. A ground out moves the runner to 2nd with one out. The next batter walks on a 3-2 count to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. A double play ends the game.
 
With a 2nd game today, IU needed Bothwell to go deep in relief and he did just that, finishing out the continuation of the game from yesterday. Bothwell's slate was clean except for three walks, and he faced just 23 batters in 7 IP and had 8 Ks. IU outhit the Gophers, 11-1, and Whalen, Jessee, Pyne and Mathison all had two hits apiece with Pyne hitting two doubles and getting 3 RBIs. Mathison had a two-run homer, his team-leading 16th of the season as he continues to add to his freshman home run hitting record.
