Miller Kopp....

You've still got to be able to guard the other team. I just get tired of watching our 6'7" centers trying to bang with the bigs in the B10.

Well we don’t have any 6’7 centers that will be trying to bang with opposing Big Ten centers so no need to worry there.

Not sure if anyone agrees but kinda reminds me of Kreigh Smith type. I'd say Steve Eyl but Eyl was a bit more athletic. The bench should be a lot stronger for IU this season. Losing Franklin and Durham hurts very little when you replace them with Bates,Kopp,Johnson and Stewart. Addition by subtraction.
Kreigh Smith or Steve Eyl? My recollection of Smith was 100% role player and Eyl was solid, but definitely not a shooter. Not at all what Kopp is purported to be, from what I've heard of him. I guess I saw him in the NW games and remember his name, but not specifics about his play.

Oh good, glad I won't have to watch Race or Geronimo try to slow Dickinson, Edey or Williamson this year!

In all seriousness, I'm ecstatic with what CMW has done....I just feel like we're still a bit thin upfront. I will say, I wonder if they're maybe just very high on Logan though. That's my hope.

I'd be willing to bet RT is closer to 6'7" than 6'8". Put me in the camp of wanting another big, but I'm glad to have the shooting and CMW obviously wants guys that fit his system. I just feel it leaves us very thin up front with no one to deal with a 5 who is big and can score over/through TJD or RT, as we've seen in years past with Kofi, and any of several PU players. I also thought it might be doing TJD a favor to have another experienced post to play next to him at times, but others have said the NBA sees him as an undersized 5 so maybe he buys in on that.

hate to have to count on a freshman big, so I kind of doubt it's that. Sounds like TJD will be on the floor as much as he can stand, which is how it should be with your best player I suppose.

Welcome to the new IU with Matta, Fife, Hunter, Woodson we will always recruit nothing but the best. I can't remember the last time we were 10 deep 1994?

Trayce will be eating up most of the minutes at "center" and is 6'9.

In the 4 out, 1 in, that is your only somewhat traditional big on the floor. We may struggle with teams that play multiple bigs but they would also likely struggle defending us on the flip side if they weren't as mobile.

If he wants to go to law school, isn't Northwestern the better place to be?
Perhaps, that depends on target discipline. IU is a "good place to be" (which is what I said). He could finish up pre law at IU and apply at NWU if he preferred Pritzker.

Thompson was about 1/2" taller than Morgan. I was wrong about that previously, so I'd call him legit 6'8".

While I like Kopp as a player, I'm a bit concerned by our lack of size. I was really hoping to pull in someone that could hold their own against opposing bigs. We just looked too overmatched inside last season and I can see that being the case again.

Hopefully Logan really steps up and adds some much needed inside presence this year.
Did you watch the final four, or the earlier rounds where the teams with size lost?

Yep, Logan is going to HAVE to play next year. We will need his fouls (at a minimum) in a lot of BIG Ten games. That was what IU missed most about not having Brunk last year. We didn't have his 5 fouls to throw at other bigs.

True... LD needs to Really hit the weight room over the next 6 months... He's going to have to grow up fast...

I have seen this so many times and it just isn’t true. Yes there are not many slow 7’ers nowadays. Bayler played 4 guards but their center was like 6’10” and 250. One of their 4 “guards” was 6’9” and another was 250 lbs. Huston played 3 guys (pretty much 2 guys Race Thompson size and strength in the game at all times.

Yes versatility is at a premium but very few teams are playing only a single guy who can guard the post, rebound, and rim protect.

My problem is those people who expect Hunter to play the 4 spot only averaged 3 rebounds and .1 blocks per game. That’s not going to get it done defensively imo. A 6’7” shooter can man the 4 but he better be strong and athletic enough to get it done on the defensive end.

You are correct. I do know that Smith was purported to be a good shooter when he came in. I may be wrong, but I thought Smith was like the Mr. Basketball Illinois. But he, of course, turned out to be nothing more than a screener and role player.

Eyl was an elite athlete who couldn't really shoot. Was a defensive specialist and a very good defender. If I recall right, I thought that Eyl was a highly recruited football player too. A very very good athlete who could guard nearly any position on the floor..

Kopp doesn't remind me of either of those guys, except that he's a white dude.

i'll always remember RMK waving Eyl on down the floor vs UNLV

Pretty sure KS was from Tipton, Indiana.

I share your concerns with the lack of legit size on the roster. Post D is gonna be an obvious Achilles heel. Kopp averaged 3 boards and .1 blocks in over 30 minutes per last year. Point one. He’s just not gonna be a D presence in the paint.

Losing Brunk may haunt this team. Agree with some that Logan will get mucho minutes. The gameplan vs. IU will be quite obvious... get TJD in foul trouble.

I like Logan’s game. But relying on frosh bigs is always a gamble. Overall the team should see 20+ wins and a tourney though. Hopefully. But may get bludgeoned by the B10 elite. Elite post rosters on UM/Purdue...

Will def be looking for IU to land an elite big (or two?) in 2022.

There’s no denying it’s a growing trend in college basketball. There’s also no denying that the best overall team (Baylor) played most of their games with a true big and a power 4 (Vital). And they used their size and strength advantage to dominate what many thought was the best team going into that title game.

We can win with TJD and Race playing together. The other 3 guys just need to all be solid B10 level guards. Race and TJD haven’t had that yet.

We can play with those two on the court if they are gonna run through a wall for Woodson. I think they have it in them, but they only played like that maybe 25% of the time last year. Baylor’s bigs would litterally kill someone for Drew, and I don’t think I’m exaggerating.
