Watching what appears to be an over-rated pU team flail away against MD. MD relying on shots from deep and guards driving to the rim. Doesn't appear to be anything designed to go inside which is odd given they have two guys at 6'10" including Bruno Fernando who is a load - only a sophomore but big, calm, good hands and STRONG.

Carsen Edwards plays like the Energizer bunny, but not much of a supporting cast and yet in typical pU fashion, they bump and grind and stick around. Anyway, far from a thing of beauty tonight, although MD had an early stretch that made it seem like they were ready to run pU out of the gym, looks like life in the BIG.

On a side-note Duke signed the # 3 prospect and a center, and UNC getting hard looks by a couple highly ranked front court players - might really be down to IU and MSU for Keion and perhaps MSU for Stewart - can't see either opting for uK.

Look forward to a day when IU and its Coach have a timely track record in the Tourney like Izzo so as to further incentive recruits. Need no reminders of how his/MSU's character/program flaws aren't anything IU wants to emulate - it's well understood.

I see CE is continuing his stellar asst to TO ratio and hot shooting. lol
Purdue’s unis are horrible.

Turgeon helped us out all those years we had nothing inside and his teams shot brick after brick from deep outside. Do their fans like him?

Carsen Edwards and a bunch of role players. It is painful to watch Cline move. Maryland doesn't really run anything on offense, basically streetball.

I watched for a little bit but got bored when neither team could score. Maryland took a couple of step back fade away 3s and I knew even Painter couldn't choke that game away.

The game highlighted for me how stupid the rankings were for some of these teams.I expect to leap over these teams when we beat UL and Butler.

Who won?

MD scored 6 points in the final 7 minute. When they got to the 2 minute mark and the game on the line, no wanted to shoot. 3 straight empty possessions where they didn't even get a shot off. Ugly ugly finish to a mostly ugly game. That Fernando dude is a beast. Only a soph, I don't see him sticking around 4 yrs. Some NBA money waiting for him.

early season rankings mean nothing. Voters going off of what they remember from last yr plus some press clippings they've read. Rankings don't matter to me until Feb 1 and beyond. By then reality has sorted things out.

Is Coach K the modern day John Wooden. He has always gotten talent but these last couple of classes are ridiculous. Is he benefitting from a Sam Gilbert type booster who can handle under the table stuff while he turns a blind eye. He could rattle off a few more championships before he retires.

Take him out of here and off with his head.

The 6'7" freshman, Wheeler, played very well. Athletic, and he can shoot. He will be a factor going forward.

It was a fugly game for sure. Kind of reminded me of the Big Ten in the early '90's when Michigan had goons like Relford and Tarpley and Purdue turned every game into a wrestling match. Lots of mugging and nobody scoring.

If those two teams are among the 25 best in the nation, college basketball is in a seriously down year. It was brutal to watch.

not to split hairs but he's 6'9 with a 7'1 wingspan. He's our most athletic player. Lots of frustration right now with Painter as he hasn't played him enough this year favoring walk on Grady Eifert....He got some PT yesterday and played well. Assuming he plays more going forward, he's a match up issue for a lot of teams has he has an inside outside game.

Never heard of the guy until today. What’s his story, Cliff Notes version? Is this someone IU needs to fear or was last night more of an aberration from the norm of freshman reality. Bottom line...will he play 4 years and how many of those years coming off the bench. What was your excitement score upon hearing his PU announcement, based upon a 0 to 10 scale with 10 being uncontrollable orgasm of long duration, self-induced with the aid of Crisco. I remember there was a precocious boy in school we all used to call “The Crisco Kid”. I always wondered why, but was afraid to ask-he was bigger than me. You don’t suppose...

I had forgotten about Tarpley. If I'm not mistaken it was Tarpley and his antics after several thunderous dunks up at their place that resulted in Todd Jadlow getting retribution some weeks later in Assembly Hall. And Coach Knight went ballistic on TJ for his actions after his throw down and rebel yell. I laughed until I cried at Jadlow imitating Tarpley after he dunked the ball in Assembly.

I remember that. Jadlow almost got killed.

I’ll tell you one thing. If anyone thinks IU beating Purdue or Maryland or Nebraska or Iowa is a sure thing, they could be sadly mistaken. All can play extremely tough, gritty D that will keep them in games. Bruno Fernando is as relentless and tough on the boards as you will see a college player. Carson Edwards, though an average defender, is a great scorer who can go on an offensive spurt at any time. Nebraska is loaded with quality players. Ditto Iowa. The league is going to have many very close battles throughout the year. IU will need to match their opponents intensity every game. No time off for anyone and guys like Rob, DeRon, Al and DeVonte will need to be consistently effective all season long. We sure could use a healthy Race too for front court depth. This could be one if the most interesting IU and B1G seasons in years. Cheers!
